I was hoping to get some advice on which dac/amp to buy. From what I have read, the d10's dac wins, but the move2/move3's amp is better. Using the dac portion, which of these amps would be a better choice?

The two headphones that I will be using are the ath m50s and akg 701. I realize that no portable amp will drive the 701's to their "full" potential, but it would be nice to find something portable that makes them sound nice. Up until this point I have been using an e-mu 0404 usb, but I am having some channel imbalance problems and thought it might be nice to get something that is a little more portable.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Quite a few now seem to be using the D10 for its great DAC capability and feeding the output into another amp - I am doing much the same thing with my Topaz, but I only have one amp that will do justice to the 601s, and thats an integrated weighing over 10kg. My opinion is that the higher-impedance AKGs need a solid desktop rig under them and anything else will be a compromise, including many of the entry-level desktop amps. I believe that Skylab has had success driving fullsize cans with various portable amps, so it may be an idea to re-read his monster thread.

I am also thinking of using the D10's DAC to connect my MacBook to my Gilmore Lite. I love the fact that I can also use it as a portable amp/DAC combo when away from my home rig. I kind of wish the D10 had a 24/96 upsampler though, like the Pico. *Checks iBasso and HeadAmp sites to see if he knows what he is talking about*

I have a 3move. I've been happy about it except two things:

Housing is rounded, surfaces are not flat. The shape of it is slightly oval which makes it weird to put with other devices.
Housing is a coarsely brushed metal.
