Archos 5/7 pinout for LOD - Page 2

This may be a bit off topic but, I got a used Archos 5 and the right channel in the headphone jack doesn't work. Is there any info on how I can get the audio from the bottom ports?

Edit: Nevermind, I see the FM remote thing he was talking about. It's a bit bulky though. I was hoping for more of a port.

Edit: And the problem somehow magically fixed itself after halfway charging it. I love life.

Nice when life goes your way...

Well. I have to wiggle it and get the right place for it to work properly. (and it's all over if it comes out) I can probably fix this, and if not get the FM adapter and mod it to make it shorter or something.

Is the SQ from the archos headphone out pretty good? how does it compare to say the itouch or iphone 3gs? Im thinking about grabbing one for all the cool stuff it does plus 250g on the go is awesome. Just dont know about the SQ wish it had optical out from a port or a true lod.

not bad, but not great. I only use the Archos 5 for watching movies and use the Iphone or Ipod with LOD and amo for my music.

damn not what i wanted to hear. When you have it plugged into the dvr dock does it have to plug into an ac adapter or can you carry it i know not so portable but with the dock attached? That wouldnt be too bad just listen when im seated through optical and a d10? then my 3gS when im walking around.

So, back on topic; here is the finished product. Wasn't what I was hoping for (true line-out), but this works great on the go. Nice to have the tactile controls in my pocket.

Aspire thanks for the photos.... not a bad set up though. A bit bulky and cumbersome. How's the sound ... noticeable difference from the headphone jack?

The Archos 5/7 seem like such a disappointment, at first it looked like just what I was searching for (a semi-portable player/transport with a large touch screen interface and massive storage capacity AND decent battery life), and I was really hoping somebody could figure out how to get digital out with out that stupid dock, or at least line out.

I'm sure it is still possible with some modding since it clearly has this ability when using one of the dock accessories at least and I'm tempted to take the plunge and see if I can't figure it out, but given the number of scathing 1 star reviews on Amazon and Archos' tendency to nickle and dime it's customers to death with various codec "plug-ins" and accessories, I'm just not ready to give them my money. At the very least it seems like it would be fairly easy to produce a true line out ALA the iMod/DIYmod.

The newer models that run Android looked promising too, perhaps we could get a USB driver that would allow us to use an AMP/DAC combo but apparently it's plagued with stability issues and is still fairly locked down in order to force you to buy their plug ins. Meh.

new cowon w2 runs win7 so should do usb out

Sure, but the battery life will likely be abysmal and I'm sure it won't clock at at 200 bucks like the Archos 5 250gb/Archos 7 160gb currently are on Amazon...

I'll still be keeping my eyes out to see what develops...

At least your Archos devices don't stop videos, songs, Internet for no reason, and don't head-crash three times in two months. I am typing on my Archos 7 which I replaced today... which head-crashed last night.
BTW, the A5 has distortion issues while the A7 has much less. Also the EQ won't clip.

Archos 7 is great for watching movies, but my headphone jack is dead and the chargin ones temperamental now Didn't have this problem with my older Archos 705.

Found this thread on another forum, think I'm going to try it on my 16gb archos 5 that has been sitting around. Will let people interested know how it goes. Basically its an imod for the archos. http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=32777&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a  .
