Both 404 models are more forward than the O2 which seems laid back in comparison.

I sold the standard 404 and kept the LE, but had I not had so many phones, I could have happily lived with the standard 404 as well.

I find the upper mid problems in the 404 tend to go away when the back foam is removed. Does the LE have the same back foam as the 404?

The O2 Mk1 may be more laid-back than the O2A which has a more biting treble. I also have mine modded with the Spritzer spring mod which smoothes the frequency response in both bass and treble.

the lambda pro variants are worth checking out. a while back Mikhail had an es-1/meridian rig at one of Aaron's queens, ny meets. compared to both he90s and o2s, lambda pros were much more effective than either playing back some porcupine tree. on the high priced spread phones it was just too smooth and laid back to work well. the lambdas put some growl and guts into the performance, ie. they can rock (not neccesarily the forte of the others). they'd certainly cost a hell of a lot less and are easier to find!
