I just got my first pair of IEMs (i think) Senn CX300's, starting out low end...

anyways

I am very anal about keeping my ears clean. I probably clean my ears 1-2x a day ( I don't know how healthy that is since ear wax is important)

Anyways, after wearing the cx-300s for about an hour my ears starting to produce wax, CONTINUALLY whenever I wear them. I keep having to clean my ears every time after. Since these are for school, am I going to have to carry Q-tips around with me?

Will the onslaught of earwax die down as my ears get accustomed to the presence of IEMS?

What do you do? Do any of y'all have a problem with this?

I don't think the earwax is a result of using iems, but rather that you have something in your ear so you're noticing the earwax more.

I wouldn't worry about it, certainly don't bother with cleaning your ears at school. Best solution is to just wipe the tips of your IEMs after use on a tissue.

You may notice the level of wax buildup reduce over time, but it really is personal.

It won't "normalize", might caramelize.. I warm peroxide and bubble the ears a few times a year. Recommended to me by a Doctor for People with a lot of Brain leaking. Keeps em' clean as a whistle!

I know, sounds strange...but check with your Doc!!

This is correct. With the ear in question facing upwards, fill your ear with 3% hydrogen peroxide (make sure no more than 3%!) and let it bubble for a while. Then rinse it out with some warm water.

Depending how hard the wax in your ear is, you may need to do this up to a few times a day for a couple of days.

Do not use q tips to clean your ears, as it just pushes the wax in further. Think of a cannon.

It only pushes it in farther if you push it in farther. If you just swab around the outside, you won't have a problem. That is, apply slight pressure to the wall of the ear canal, and do not apply any pressure in an inward direction.

I used to have really disgusting ears (I needed a serious cleaning every few months, or it would affect my hearing). After a few weeks of doing this, a few chunks came out, and I've not had any earwax problems since.

Sorry for the graphic description

, but I wanted to make it clear that using cotton swabs is definitely OK.

CHUNKS?!?!

wow, this is getting exciting. i don't think i have chunks i my ears because i keep em so clean.... but maybe... OMG!!

I am going to test out the hydrogen peroxide thing....

i def. think your ear produces extra earwax when there's something in it (iems) etc

Growing up, I had to have my ears "irrigated" as they call it about twice a year. I always had chunks removed. These days I do the peroxide thing about once a month and I've had no problems for years. It's going to "bubble" as the wax oxidizes and it tickles. Be prepared for the tickling and rinse after it subsides (5 mins or so). One ear at a time. The first few times you do this is a RUSH! It should cause no pain. If your ears hurt doing this, you should see a Dr.
