I wonder if you all could help me figure out if it's worth it for me to buy a SR-60i. I have been wanting a Grado for a long time to complement my headphones (DT48 and MDR-SA5000) as they don't play rock very well. I had a SR-225i and liked the way it played electric guitar, so I was about to pull the trigger on a RS-1 when I took a job in China that greatly reduced my salary in absolute terms (although tripled it in relative terms). So I can no longer afford a headphone that expensive. I was wondering if a SR-60i would better the SA5K in rock music, or if it would just be a waste of money. I plan to spend about $50 on a used one and the shipping will be free because a friend will bring them to me next month. I do not have a dac or headphone amp now, i run them from my computer. Can anyone who's heard both give me some advice?

Well, it's really hard to compare, the Grado SR60 is around $50+ while the sony are pretty pricey.

Price doesn't matter, it's not like I am gonna buy one or the other. I already have the SA5K. I just want to know if the SR60i will sound nicer with rock music.

Yes, given your stated situation, you should get the 60s.

Most people consider grado the unofficial rock/metal headphones, so they might. But, haven't never heard the SA5k I can't comment. But, I have never liked the SR60.

If money is no problem buy them. It's only $50. If you don't like them give them away or re-sell them.
