Headphones for gaming DH headphone rig?

Actually the HFI-780s sound incredible with DH, DHT, and with Nero Headphone too. If you look at Ultrasone's notes on the 780s, they were actually designed to work with Dolby Headphone AND Yamaha Silent Cinema. http://www.ultrasone.com/pdf/shop/HF...nformation.pdf

All it said was they raised bass response so it worked better with DSPs. In other words they compensated adding another variable into the mix. Personally S-Logic being redundant is enough of a reason to exclude it IMO.

Ya, that is why i bought a pair. But they ended up being the worst headphones that i've tried with DH. Great bass and detail, but the soundstage was painfully small; i could not locate sound position and i could not judge distance, and they were not comfortable- hurt my outer ears; very shallow earpads and made them sweat.

Of the headphone in my sig, the best synergy with DH (at different price levels) has been DR50 (excellent for direction but lacked bass), NS1000 (probably best I've heard with DH), HD580 and HD600. For the latter two, amplification is particularly important. The sense of space is reduced if the Senn 'veil' is present.

Not quite made up my mind on the JVC HA -RX700 yet.

I chose the SU-DH1 over the A40 Mixamp because of the 3 Dolby Headphone options. I'd heard all 3 on an Asus Xonar D2 and DH2 is my least favourite. The Mixamp only has DH2.

Shike mate, why must you do this to me?

My experience with AKGs has been brief but I love them to bits!

Hmm... Apart from a few IEMs (just to prove everyone else was right, natch

), I also tried my K701s with it and some Sennheisers; I wasn't impressed.

Off topic: For the record, I hold my K701s as the best music headphones I've ever heard (not that I've heard every pair) as they work amazingly with conveying the music and the emotional content of classical music.

Just wondering what made you go with the SU-DH1 over the Astro mixamp since this is for gaming. Wondering because I have been looking at the two for a while.

I don't do online gaming anymore so the mic is wasted on me. Plus, I heard that the SU-DH1 was slightly better... But mainly, I preferred having the 3 DH options.

Too bad I cant have an open pair of headphones... Lol, plus those are like 300 dollars when my limit is only that of the A700's...

Ah, sorry mate. Expensive business is HeadFi. Get it right though and at least you only have to buy once.

+1, although I use it on DH2 anyway...

DH1 simulates nearfield monitor speakers in a well dampened room.
DH2 simulates speakers in a more usual listening room with acoustic reflections (maybe home cinema size).
DH3 simulates speakers in a larger listening room with more obvious acoustic reflections (say jazz club sort of size).

All 3 simulate up to 5 speakers with the bass (.1) channel mapped across them rather being a discreet simulated subwoofer (I can't remember if it's mapped to just the front left and right or all speakers).

As well as simulating a 5 speaker configuration, it's fine for simulating stereo or quadraphonic speaker setups.

One quick test I've found for headphone synergy with Dolby Headphone is trying DH3 mode and seeing if deep bass sounds are convincingly rendered remotely from you (seemingly in front of you for stereo music). I find that if headphones can't cope with the bass, it still sounds like it's coming from headphones. If it sounds distant you're half way to finding a set of headphones with good synergy. For this to work effectively you need quick, tight, well controlled bass. If there's even a hint of 'mud' it won't work properly.

Actually, I have been using them with Dolby Home Theater, not DH, and then sound great. I have been listening to them now for going on 4 hours, I had to adjust the band by bending it at the top outward. Not the most comfortable phones I have but the best sounding.
