Reversible AD700/900 Mod for increasing Bass and question for modding experts (56K Warning)

One thing I am finding with this mod is that it seems to make the headphones a bit to fatiguing, I may try adjusting the mod to cover only every other hole to see if it helps in this regard without taking away to much of the positive aspects of the mod.

Another thing I think will be a deciding factor for some is the volume you listen at. I find this mod is good for lower volume levels as it keeps more of the sound in play. I think at higher volume levels this may become counter productive or again too fatiguing.

I went away from this mod completely as I found it was too fatiguing but have recently tried the foam removal mod being discussed in the AD900 appreciation thread. The foam removal mod made the mids to recessed for me so I tried using this mod in conjunction with it and I have to say I am impressed. The FRM with this mod has increased the bass quite a bit, maintained the midrange, and reduced the highs enough that there is no shrillness (or fatigue). For any wanting to be adventerous without damaging their precious AD900's this a very satisfying mod, plus the FRM makes the AD900 looks so darn sexy

Hmmm, I was just reading your thread and thinking about trying some of the steps you've listed there on my AD900 (unfortunately I have astripped screw on my AD700 making mods on them impossible at the moment).

What is counter productive in my mod in conjunction with yours? Does it bring out to much mids or highs or somehow muddy the sound?

After one last kick at this mod in conjunction with some other mods I was playing with on the weekend I have to say I have given up on this mod, it simply makes the HP's too fatiguing for me. Close but no cigar as they say

hey this is my first post on head fi since I have been reading threads on here for a while as I've been shopping for my first set of proper headphones. So anyway my first ended up being the jvc harx700 and the ad700s.  I wanted to reply to this thread even though it is 3 years old because well i think it is still relevant and I came across it searching for ways to increase the bass on my ad700s rather than send them back right away. I see you gave up on the mod as it was too fatiguing, however I didn't notice much change in the highs (im guessing that is why the fatigue) but as you noticed earlier the bass seems to have more resonance and lasts longer which I like. I think I will keep it this way and I personally think it helps quite a bit. thanks!

in case anyone else finds this thread as well, I just found another mod which i think is fantastic http://www.headfonia.com/audio-technica-ad-series-ad300-ad700-ad900-ad1000prm-ad2000/

the first post says to roll up a tissue and put in the in the back half of each earpad. I think this added the effects that he described - a little more bass and a bit more focused sound. the main thing though is that they seem to fit my head much better and takes the pressure off the top of my jaw as I have a pretty narrow head. something else - even more simple to consider and try.
