There you go again...DON'T get me started with the sound of the Phoenix.

LOL - right. The Phoenix is a smooth bird, I agree.

We were discussing the relative quality of amps in relation to the HE-5 - seems an appropriate topic to me.

What about your Beta 22 and HE-5?

Your abrupt nature isn't healthy...it's annoying.

The Beta 22 (single-ended) gain of eight, had some problems with the congestion and hardness that became apparent on dynamic peaks. My Balanced Beta..I can't surmise without a balanced cable.

Amps aren't the only consideration folks. Can your source convey the dynamic peaks of Music? Can it reach the lowest low and highest high of the source material? Is your source going to react into the load it sees at the amplifier. Many things go into how you perceive the sounds you hear!

This is MY thread so I am allowed another RANT!

People approach everything backward in this hobby!! "take the plunge" wrote one poster..all he had was a Hornet and wanted to mate a very expensive headphone with it. That's synergy made in Heaven! Can You Really Expect Miracles?

Balance in life, balance in system building. People grab a headphone and can't possibly power it. They get two the second level and discover amps and find they hear more and like it less. The last is always the source? Why is this. "All Digital sounds the same" BULLPUCKY BUCKY. 0 or 5 volts..on or off...one's and zero's...BUT we hear in the analog domain folks. Learn and Start source first! The rest will all make sense.....I PROMISE!

I can only apologize and beg your pardon.

Well well, it's shame Beta 22 cannot handle that... These HE-5 are evil!

NOT ACTUALLY! You can raise the gain of the Beta to accommodate the HE-5 perfectly. But, at the expense of the other phones that don't require an eighth of the power (expressed in watts) output.

I'm dedicating the First Watt for Ortho service exclusively! I have a lot of gear and traded for one. It's more than a Hobby for me...if you hadn't guessed already...just good enough, ain't enough. Sometimes something comes along and it challenges and begs to be taken to the limit. These phones are that for me. The dedicated established, old time OrthoMen (I'm not one of those) know this to be the case and are on the fringe of Watts Watt

. I think we need Head-Fi T-shirts with Monikers like "OrthoMan".......etc.

You might be developing a "headphone issue" with the t-shirt thing.

Figure the team support likened to support of a sport franchise. Both will sit in the bleachers and get along (unless your at a Raider

game)!

And don't think that marketing and engineering at Sennheiser actually communicate with one an other. They probably don't. And how much of the Dac was Magic anyway? Under show conditions two minutes pass....and from that you know how something sounds? Actually the HD800 was telling you exactly what the chain sounds like!! Reality People..it bites! A bit of a rant but live with it!!!

Aww c'mon, don't patronize me

I know all this perfectly too well. We have maybe 2% of the fine amps you have over there, available here. Dacmagic is rubbish, and the Lehmann just, well, not a good add to the chain. I did comment on the HD800s having that chameleon-like nature. (By the way, I listened to this set about an 1,5 hours in home-like quiet environment with plenty of reference material, even some I've witnessed been played and recorded by professionals I know..)
Your shameless observations of the phones just left me jaw-dropped simply because I could not agree with even one notation
smily_headphones1.gif
And I think I blamed the equipment for that hence me asking about YOUR assorted equipment. Of course each has his own preferences for "colour", no denying that.
I hope I made sense, hehe..

Skylab have you tried it with one of your OTL tube amps (assuming you still have some)
