I've been reading threads now for 4 hours, checking reviews, reading more threads, checking reviews, reading a contradicting post, and so on. I've been trying to avoid posting another "please choose my IEM for me" type post. I've read just about every $200 IEM relevant post I can find. However, I'm too the point where I have as little direction as I did when I started. I will nearly decide on a IEM, then find a contradicting opinions that sends me spinning. I know that everyone's opinion is different, but I'd love an opinion on my exact specs. Here are my requirements, any imput is greatly appreciated.

$200ish I could spend a bit more if needed, but I would prefer to stay under this range and cheaper if possible.

Noise Isolation I am taking a trip to SE Asia for a few months where I am going to be on planes, noisy packed buses, and who know what else. I really want something that isolates well so I can zone out when needed and be in my own world.

Sound My music is all over the map, movie scores, hip hop, jazz, acoustic, vocal. I do like bass, but the best headphones I have listened to are my current $40 skullcandy's from Best Buy. I'm not sure how much bass these have compared to what I am looking into but I def love some thump when listening to hip hop.

What I have been looking at I've been reading about REOs (read isolating isn't great but only $100), IE7s (isolating not great?), maybe IE8, Sleek SA6s (look flimsy, not sure if they will make the trip, in and out of a backpack, ect), Klipsch X10, D-jays (no idea), and I am open to others. I was thinking about some UE too but I think I read they stick out far and I might be laying down and some point. I will be powering them with a iPod Touch without an amp. Thanks in advance.

Isolation is a more personal thing, but of course the overall design of the IEM can affect it. RE0 isolate pretty good, though I am having a hard time finding a more comfortable tip since the only the biflange tip allows the best isolation but even the smallest tip I find not so comfortable.

There are tons of option at $200. Audeo PFE IIRC are still pretty good, very balanced IEM. I know Ka-Boom has a list of a bunch of thread that list IEMs around $200, im sure you came across it as well.
How cheap are you willing to go?

Well I would say the RE0 is probably one of the best IEMs you can get for your price range. But, it does not have the "thump" you want when compared to the skullcandy. Rather than quantity of bass, the quality of the bass is far greater than the skullcandy.

IE8 and X10 are over $200. I personally haven't heard all these IEMs, so I can't really tell you what's better. You could look into the Q-Jays.

+1 for PFE. You get a great (budget oriented) quality product and an outstanding sound. Although it's not a bass monster, you still get a good amount of bass that won't leave you wanting more. Run it with a small amp like FiiO's E5 for better results.

The over-ear design is a bit weird to get used to at first, but once you get the hang of it, using them gets easy, and they're very comfortable.

With music all over the map, it is best to run a well balanced earphone. You want something with a very even and unbiased frequency response. The PFE is decent about this, not perfect, but it's not off enough where you would complain.

$120 right now.

IE8 is out because it's over 200, unless you can find it for your price. if you can, you should buy it. The SA6 are pretty decent from what I heard. they are fully customizable. If you want more bass your can get a bass port for it.

I was in your same situation a year ago. I mostly listen to rap/hip hop/some electronic and I wanted something that would give me good bass response. I ended up picking up the Klipsch x10's and they are amazing. They still shock me at how good they sound. I tried them with different tips and found the big double flange tips they come with give the best bass response, even when compared to foam. You should definitely add them to your list! I think I got mine for $170ish

EDIT: This was a year ago, so not sure if something better came out since then

I have the IE8`s and i would like to disagree with the seal/ambient noise.
I can here nothing apart from music here. I don`t wear them over ear and if I did I pretty much would disagree again.
Stunning iems and yes they do isolate.

dont get the ie8 if you like deep thunderous bass.i had the skullcandy titans about 6 month ago and while the ie8 beats them in bass quality, but they dont beat them in bass quantity.if you like deep deep oomppa bass go for the jvc fx500,they have incredible deep bass that betters the ie8 in both quantity and quality.they isolate well but not dead silent isolation, but if you crank the volume a few notches, you wont hear a thing but music.they can be found for $130 ate seyo-shop.com

Denon C751 would be a contender for thunderous bass.
On the IE8 front, keep the bass setting on the iem about 3 then hit the bass boost on your amp, not sure why they say bass boost because the whole track is boosted. Nice.

I've decided on the Klipsch S4s or S4i's. I was leaning towards the X10s but heard a strong review of the S4s sounding as good as the X10s. With the price diff, might as well go for the S4s. I finally made a decision, can't wait to pick some up!
