Ive had my HD580's for the past 3-4 months.(bought them new on amazon.com) I listen to them at acceptable volumes and hardly ever push them. Yet within the past 2 weeks I've noticed a slight bizz on the left side when songs are bassy. For most other stuff, Its not that noticeable. I've heard that stock cables kinda go wierd after awhile. But just to see if it was the cable (although this probably isn't advisable) I took out the right ear cable and plugged it into the left and vice versa with the other side, just too see if it was the left audio cable. Sure enough the buzz was present.

Im hoping its the cable and not the driver. But i don't want to spend money on a new cable if thats not the fault. Any ideas?

thanks

if it ain't the source, maybe something got inside and makes the noise when the driver moves a lot from bass signals. remove the pad cautiously, take out the foam layer, and look at the driver.

Exactly the same thing is happening with my 580s ( on the left side as well) and i was just about to send it in for repair. But now i will consider removing the driver and taking a look.

Qns: How do you remove the driver ??? , I opened up the back plastic portion, but could not figure out how to proceed further.

Remove the plush earcups (just pull on them, it takes some force) then remove the foam backing (just laying in there), then blow on the driver thoroughly. This has happened to me as well, it's no big deal, just a hair or other small piece of debris that rattles against the drivers when certain frequencies are hit.

I just tried it with my HD-580... just lay the foam back on the way it was, and press the pad back on until you hear a snap. After doing this the pads seem to look fit slightly differently (so I did it on both sides), but the sonic character isn't any different.

BTW I wouldn't do this too often, I've read warnings from other headphone manufacturers never to blow on the drivers. I think you could accidentally deposit a droplet of saliva which would leave a residue and be detrimental to the sound. If the drivers were sprayed with saliva I think you would be screwed.

I s'pose it could, if the stream weren't too strong... otherwise you're blowing how many PSI of air onto the drivers, maybe freezing them from the gas used in the spray? Maybe I'm being a little anal here (shout out to taoster

) but these aren't exactly dirt cheap headphones.

I can't believe you guys!! You're talking about compressed air and all kinds of complicated stuff. All you gotta do is get a decently strong hair dryer and set it to "cold."

The bennefits of this:

1) NO spit deposits (ewww!!)
2) NO damage from high pressure air.
3) FREE!!

Nice call on the hairdryer suggestion too, davidmiya. So simple, yet so obvious!
