Hello

I just got this mod done last night. This is only a teaser for now as I don't have the modding photos with me. Below are how the player will look like after the mod.

The mod basically goes down like this:
Replace the harddisk with a cf adaptor --> cf to sdhc card adaptor --> sd to micro sd adaptor (opened up and got 9 wires soldered to the pins) --> sd card expension slot (This is a push to eject expension slot like the ones in digital camera)

Open a hole in your player and its done!

This mod only works with the rockbox firmware. Copy the rockbox files and the music to any sd/sdhc/mmc card and you are good to go!

Hi I am back with the walkthrough!

This mod is basically converting the hard drive of the H120 into sd card, and making the sd card slot accessible from the outside so that you can swap different sd card without opening up the player.

Things u need:

1. DealExtreme: $4.44 CF to Toshiba 1.8-inch IDE Hard Drive Converter
1.8" harddrive to compact flash converter.

2. Compact flash to sdhc/sd/mmc adaptor. (Bought at a retail store for around $18

3. sd to micro sd converter (Usually comes with the package when you buy a micro sd card for your cell phones)

4. Digi-Key - HR845TR-ND (Manufacturer - DM1AA-SF-PEJ(21))
Push to eject sd card slot

5. An sdhc/sd card

Step No. 1:
If you don't have rockbox installed, please install rockbox 3.3 into the player first. Then copy the .rockbox folder into your computer.
If you have rockbox already, make sure it is in the latest version 3.3 and copy the .rockbox folder into your computer.

Step No. 2:

Remove the sd to micro sd adaptor upper enclosure with a small screw driver or something, and solder 9 wires on the pins as shown.

Step No. 3

Solder the other end onto the sd card slot.

Step No. 4

Copy the .rockbox file and maybe some music into the sd card. Now, you can connect everything together and turn on the player and see if the player functions normally. Also, use some double sided tapes on the sd slot and tape the wires and the whole sd slot for secruement.

Step No. 5

OK, we now have to make a hole on the player for the sd card to come out. I found the top side near the on/off button is the only place to have enough room. The top and bottom side will not have fit and the sd card will stick out, and there a mic glued on the other side of the player which I don't wanna mess with.

This is the back casing of the player, we will need to remove the first and about 1/3 of the second tap. A file should do the job. Sorry, I lost the end result photo of the back casing.

Step No. 6

Now make a depression on the side housing.

Step No. 7

Now we need to cut a piece of plastic. This plastic is placed between the side housing near the mic and the sd card slot. It is there so that when you push the sd card in, the sd slot will be pushed into the player.

Step No. 8

Reassembly the player. Ensure the hole on the player is large enough for the sd card to come out before you screw the top and bottom casing. Copy the .rockbox folder and the music into the sd card.

Enjoy!!!

This is very interesting. Does this mean that if you flash Rockbox into the ROM, that you can use any SD card, without needing to ensure that the Rockbox folder exists on every card?

Great mod btw!

You still need the .rockbox folder in the sd card. But a simply copy and paste of the .rockbox folder will do. There's no need to flash or install or anything like that.
