Hello everyone...
As someone who is in the market for a new set of IEM's, and who has previously owned only low end (with the exception of Beats IEM's which I returned for being way too little bang for way too much buck) - I was wondering if the difference in IEM's for the range of Sennheiser IE8's, SHURE530's, UETF 10's, or Westone 3's towards lower end (0-100 dollar iems) was more significant than say, a custom IEM would be to the formerly mentioned IEMs.
I was thinking say, the UE TF 11's or something... - so for someone who would have to say for 6 months to get the TF11's, would I notice more going from the shyte entry level sony headphones I'm listening to to an IE8 or something like that, or is the difference between a 400 dollar and an 1150 dollar significant enough (aside from it being custom, I mean sound quality wise) that it makes it worth the extra months of saving.

Please help,

Thanks

I'm sorry I can't even understand you're second paragraph. Ehem, but if you are wondering, its just clarity that sets them apart.

I think he's asking whether the difference between top-of-the-line universals and top of the line customs in price is to scale with the SQ....

Or if the difference in price between high end universal's and customs is only there because custom monitors are custom...

If this is the one, then i would think not... because getting a custom shell isn't worth the $600 difference, if that's what your asking... at least not for me, mainly because custom shells aren't even remotely close to taking $600 to make.

Phoosh, if you could clarify?

The difference between low end to high end universals are massive, but the difference between high end to high end customs is...well like 30-40 percent. In my view, the ES3X is much superior to it's universal counterpart the UM3X.

in reading this I started thinking about the law of diminishing returns...so frustrating isn't it. It's almost as if the first few years in a hobby are the best. I think that's what makes this hobby so great...when it's all said and done, we're talking about music delivery. Even if you max out your system, at the end of the day we've got the music which was the point to begin with. yay!

Differences are subjected in accordance to everyone's eardrums. Not all ears have the same shape (isolation problems/sealing issues/depth of echoness). One might argue that sound for one IEM is bright and then another may say the sound is rather dark. There are so many variables that make even the most decent IEMs beat out the top-of-the-line IEMs when considering other miniscule but rather important factors such as proper sealing and cable noise. If you can't get the right seal, you will not be able to enjoy the full spectrum of sound that the IEMs are supposed to offer. Cable noise... Take for example the Monster Turbines, nothing wrong with the SQ but when it comes to the cable noise (especially jogging or doing some workout exercises), there's so much rustling that it ruins the supposedly great SQ the MT produces.

You really need to consider which IEM is the best fit for you. Not what sounds great because I can gaurantee you that SQ is NOT the only thing you need to be concerned about. Some people even trade down to a comparable (lower) competing model due to small constraints.
