do my PX200's offer any taste of the high-end sennheiser sound?

i'm a cheapskate. i love cheap stuff. if someone can make a great pair of expensive headphones, that's cool. but if they can make a great pair of cheap headphones, even better. to show what i'm saying, i have SR60's, PX200's, KSC35's, KSC50's, and KTX Pro's. and a pair of MX500's on order.

everyone knows that the grado SR60's give a taste of what the higher end stuff sounds like. but does the same apply to sennheiser? if so, does it go all the way down to their portable stuff like PX200's? reason i'm asking is because everyone seems to say that the PX100's are bass-heavy like KSC35's, but the PX200's are more balanced and smooth. so do they give the faintest trace of the family sound created by the HD600/580's?

just curious.

Maybe faintest trace would be fair, but I wouldn't say it's like the SR40's/60's connection up the line. Probably more than Senn 202's though.

yes and no... in the sense that the bass is very controlled then yes... but I honestly think the PX100 is a bit closer since they sound a lot bigger than they are and have a great soundstage and have more of the Sennheiser warmth. Anyway, just my 2 cents...

I agree with Jasper994...

The PX200s sound more like they belong to their intended application (portable) whereas the PX100s seem to be a little more refined... calmer...

From what i've heard, I really like the PX100s.. am tempted to pick up a pair - its got to be said that they look a lot better for out on the road than the KSC35s do...

The PX200's are great though, they offer pretty good isolation and sound damn good for the money and size. They've very quickly become my campus headphone of choice. They are also more articulate than the PX100's which I like. They also have that O - So - Sweet midrange!

When it comes down to it the only reasons that the PX100's remind me more of my higher end Senns is that they have a huge soundstage for their size and because of their warmth.

IMHO it's worth owning both

in a word, no.

excellent for portable use, but they cannot even begin to compare to high end senns - their muddy bass and recessed highs preclude them from that category. unless of course, you are looking for veil.
