You got it. Entropy can even make black holes evaporate and matter degrade back into its constituent quarks and eventually into zero point energy...

Doh - I've staggered into Sound Science again. Or the Tardis.

height of bhse was listed previously as 4.5" + tube height.

what is tube height for the default tubes from justin and what would you all recommend as additional space above tubes if it has to sit on a middle shelf?

thanks

your response was 'blank'

sorry, i did write an answer to your question. then i realized that "hey, i'm a rookie with the BHSE and someone likely knows more about this than me" so i erased my response.

what i wrote is just common sense about a tube amp that gets pretty hot.

--the stock EL34's are approx 3 and 1/2 inches (+ or - a little) above the top of the amp

--you need to have 4-6 inches clear above that (top of tubes) depending on (1) whether you have free space on all 4 sides and you are not in a corner or with the back against the wall (2) does the shelf below get hot? (3) is the shelf above bare wood?, might it need some sort of insulation. i'd say if you are in a very warm climate or are going to use it many hours in a row then you need to give it more space.

--this amp gets hot, but not as much from the tubes as on the sides.

so that's not specific to the BHSE, it's a more general answer. and it might be a little over-kill.

Mossback,
What are those black tube extenders under your Metal-Base Philips?
Also, what stock tubes is Justin shipping with the units currently?
Many Thanks!

those 'black tube extenders' are the metal bases to the metal base Philips. they ought to be made of gold for the price i paid.

when i get home tonight i will look at the tubes and boxes and answer your second question.

for testing I stack the BHSEs on 3 shelves (see a pic several pages back or at www.facebook.com/HeadAmp) which are spaced about 16" apart and there's no difference in temperature between the amps on the 3 shelves.  so i would recommend at least 8" of air above the tubes if the amp is on a middle shelf

Gotcha, the ones that I have encountered all had standard bases under the silver rings.

I did some searching and you have the more rare " long-nose" versions.

I'm sure they must sound pretty sweet!

ok, the stock tubes on my #29 are re-issue Mullard EL34's, no other numbers on the tubes or box other than build month and year that i can see....which vary from tube to tube.

they are exactly 4" high above the amp top plate.

Justin, it would be great if you could put the dimensions of the BHSE on your website. I know that you gave that information here somewhere a little while ago. I am just not able to find it anymore. Thanks.

i'll do that.  here it is again:

Amp: 15.65 x 12.5* x 3**
*depth does not include knob, RCA jacks…add about 1.5" for these
**height does not include included spiked feet (+1.5") or tubes (+4")

PSU: 7.5 x 12.5 x 4***
***height does not include included spiked feet (+1")
