If my regular old BH is anything to go by, you guys are in for a real treat, really soon.

Just remember that this is a brutally honest, seriously transparent amp and a quality source is more important than ever.

While I'm very happy with the SQ my current headphone system [ Shure se535's + Pico Slim + K-01 ] is giving me, I am looking forward to hearing my SR-009's driven by the BHSE, plus with the SR-009's being extremely comfortable IMO, I could listen to music for hours.

Looks like the numbers listed in Justin's post are serial numbers, not list order numbers.

After you've heard it please post your thoughts Mossback.

#29 arrived. packaging was first rate and very secure. fit and finish are exemplary, as on the Aristaeus. you see below it's quite a bit larger than the Aristaeus, and also heavier, which i like as it stays put better.

the sources; digital is the Playback Designs MPS-5 mostly used as a server dac, streaming dsd over a USB using the PD's USB box. analog is the NVS tt, Durand Telos arm, and Ortofon Anna cartridge, and then the Studer A820 RTR deck. the sources are fed to a darTZeel NHB-18NS preamp (includes an internal phono stage) and output by the rec out into the BHSE so it bypasses the preamp attenuator. power is supplied by the Equitech isolation transformer.

i gave it an hour of warm up with the stock tubes then i listened for an hour; then i intalled the NOS Philips Metal Base EL34's and have listened for a couple hours with those....with the 009'S. i've yet to do any listening with the O2 Mk1's or any comparisons with the Aristaeus. i'm just listening to music and enjoying it.

i've tried to just approach this without preconcieved expectations.....using my speaker system as the reference....not other headphones i've listened to.

first; thru the BHSE and any of my sources, with either the stock tubes or the Metal Base Philips......there is not a trace of upper frequency glare or rise in the 009's. i had not heard any thru the Aristaeus or SRM-717 either, but many have commented on this (and many have not heard that too). OTOH the 009's are the least veiled headphones i have heard by a clear margin, and they do tell you everything. if the BHSE-009 combo has any high frequency peak, at least based on my experience, look elsewhere for the cause.

the BHSE is a wonderful amplifier, both thru the stock tubes and the Philips Metal Base. i would listen for 15 minutes or so, then take them off and un-mute my speakers for a minute. i get most of the information from the BHSE-009's that my speaker tell me, but the speakers and room allow for much greater note decay and of course, dramatically more physical bass and extension. but i'm not expecting this combo to compete with my speakers.

what i am most impressed with is the un-veiled view of the music. every other headphone amp combo i've heard is colored so far in my experience. yet this combo is also natural sounding and listenable, you are not assaulted by the music. with each source i listened to rock, jazz and classical. i'm not one to consider looking at headphones as appropriate to one type of music but not another. either it tells the truth in a satisfactory way, or it does not. but everyone has their own approach to enjoying music.

as far as comparing the stock tubes with the Philips, i like them both. the stock tubes are dead on neutral, and i hear waaay into the noise floor. the Philips do add a bit of emotion and put some meat on the bones, and maybe give up a touch of transparency. both are dynamic and fast. as the Philips are NOS they seem to be continuing to improve as i'm listening and i need to bias them; so these are just preliminary perceptions.

those footer non-believers don't read the following sentances. i did throw a set of decoupling footers underneath the power supply and the image focus and delicacy clearly improved. no surprise. later i'll try them under the amp.

YMMV, it's just my 2 cents and all that.

and i almost forgot.....great job Justin!

thanks for the quick review...........i'm also waiting for mine, but i'm probably going to be the only person with a BHSE without an 009 or 007.
i've got a 404LE and plan to upgrade at some point, but i figured the BHSE would come first.

btw, what did you use for decoupling footers?
