I don't see why not, since the customs' body usually sit flush on the ear.

if by sleep you mean what i think you mean, then hint hint, wink wink! but, if by sleep you mean what i am unsure of, be careful.

starting with moulds is a great idea. then, polishing, keeping cables clean and clear - just make sure you treat 'him', or 'her' with respect before you go for the most tender of embraces.

still, sleeping with an iem (or a human) can be awkward. you may not know where to place your elbows - they always seem to get in the way! but, if you don't roll around too much it may be okay. seriously, the arms of the iem are dangerous - if they break, you will have to replace the cable at minimum. i have slept with my customs before, but strangely, it was not as comfortable as sleeping with the q-jay, or even the pfe from audeo.

I regularly sleep wearing my westone es3x's -

To me, they are far more comfortable than any universals I ever tried to fall asleep listening to purely because they lay so flat in your ear. I sleep on my side which normally causes pressure on one side and not the other which distorts the sound and is quite uncomfortable. With my customs, I do not have this problem.

The only thing to watch out for is the cable and its connection to the IEMs. I always manage to tangle myself up in the wires when sleeping and I imagine that this is not very good for them and may even stress the connection point on the iem. I haven't had any problems yet (2.5 months or so), but I won't rule out the possibility.

As a possibly unrelated side note, the braiding on my es3x cables is starting to un-braid - I am not sure though is this is due to my usage and storage habits or possibly from sleeping and twisting the wires a bunch. just fyi

That would be a fuss if some one actually died from strangling himself by sleeping with custom IEM.

As a consequence, the Custom IEM brand is being sued as it don't even put out a hazard warning label for potential harm if sleeping with IEM, and finally the company goes bankrupt to settle HUGE fee to victim

You can sleep with them on but when you fall asleep the wires may get tangled and when you wake up you might forget that you have them on and damage one of the wires when you move so it isn't recommended.

Sure you can sleep with them, just make sure you keep the volume down 'cause 7-9 hours of constant use could lead to hearing damage over time. Give your ears a break and try to take them out when you're about to fall asleep..

I can't wear then while sleeping unless I stay on my back ( NOT going to happen). They are just too big to rest on comfortably while sideways. I have good sized ears and triple driver customs and the IEM's are just pushed too hard into the canal.

Not so much that, but you are impeding the natural cycle of earwax.

I went to my audiologist for impressions last august and a general check out. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary and I didn't have any wax that would impede the impressions.

I went back this august to have impressions taken for my um3x as I didn't save my impressions from the first use (plugs), and discovered that I had a large amount of earwax (both regular and tough impacted) in the left ear only. Right ear didn't have much if any. After a series of questions about IEMs and plugs and my daily activities, we figured out that it happens in just one ear because I sleep on my left side, thus closing that ear so the wax doesn't follow the natural cycle of running out in either liquid or gaseous form, and instead slowly builds up where there are constrictions in the ear canal during sleep.

So I guess if it's comfortable at a lower volume overnight for you, then there isn't much to stop you (so yes, it's possible in reference to your question), but that doesn't necessarily make it a good idea. If I was going to seriously consider doing this on any type of a routine, I'd talk to someone who's studied hearing for a long time first to see what side-effects might occur.
