I am running iTunes from a PC Laptop (Vista).....I have the choice of going to my DAC using a USB OR buying the airtunes Module and running my library wireless to Airtunes and then using an optical (TOSlink) cable from airtunes to my DAC. I know that optical is supposed to be cleaner than USB so I am leaning towards TOSlink, but I am concerned that the music info traveling wirelessly could degrade the sound quality? Am I wrong?

-Thanks for your help

FWIW, the airport express is one of the jitteriest devices ever made. Certain DACs aren't even compatible with it.

It's an awesome toy, and makes a second system a snap, but I'd avoid it in your primary system unless you had to. The Trends U10 is a better choice for direct connection, in any case. Coax digital with a true 75ohm BNC cable is the best, if you can get it.

AirTunes/AirPort Express have been verified to be bit-perfect, so should be no degrade.
Optical S/PDIF have possible jitter issues though, probably making USB a "safer" choice sound quality wise.

That said I use an AirPort Express to feed my external DAC and am well pleased with it. Can not beat the wireless connection imo.
