Hi,

I usually listen to the um2 through the clix 2. It sounded pretty decent but still always felt that there was something missing.

Recently I just plugged the um2 into my laptop which has a soundmax sound card. It sounded absolutely glorious. I felt like I was listening to a whole new IEM. The soundstage and clairty was exactly what I was looking for.

Now that I know what the um2 is capable of, I would like to know if there is a portable amp which can really make the um2 shine like it was meant to.

I was considering the Fiio E5 as it is small and cheap. Please let me know if anyone has any experience with this amp paired with the um2.

Portability is an important factor too. I would not like to carry around a brick. So let me know which portable amp would be best with the um2 preferably under $50.

Thanks....

Setting the clix2 on 32/40 with an E5 does sound more interesting than just the Clix2 + UM2 along. But the improvement isn't something I will call 'major'. I think the limiting factor here is the warm sounding clix2, which doesn't have really good synergy with warm sounding UM2. For $50, you can get a Sansa Clip or Fuze which will sound fairly good with UM2.

Travagan's Colors has better synergy with UM2 compared to E5, but it is out of your price range ($60). Maybe you should look into a cmoy.

I am a bit of newbie in the amp department so please excuse my ignorance.

I don't want to change the clix as my dap. I am too comfortable with it. So I am looking for an amp that would work well through the headphone out to the um2 starting with the clix as the source.

Is there something bigger that sounds better within the $50 range? I would mostly only use the amp at home anyway.

Also how good is the performance of the cmoy amp and does it pair well with the um2?
Also what is the approximate price?

Thanks

well if you refuse to change your source you might have stopped your improvement right there. its unlikely to be because the UM2 are underpowered that they are not performing as you would like. its more likely to be because the quality of the clix dac and HP out arent that great. addoing a so so amp to a so so source will not make things better IMO

What I was trying to say is that I do not want to change my source immediately. I would of course like to change it in future.

But what in your opinion would be the cheapest but best dap and amp pairing for someone on a budget?

Also I would like to clear the fact that the clix does do a pretty good job with the um2 in terms of a stand alone dap. But I would like a bit more oomph in the sound and I think adding an amp in the mix would probably give me that.

It is probably one of the best sources without an amp that i have heard. But putting an amp in the mix might change things quite a bit or so I thought.

I am hoping for an increase in the dynamics of the sound than the volume. Hope you get my query now.
