I know everyone's ear configuration is a little different but do you jam them all the way in so the housing is completely flush up against the ear cavity? Or do you slightly back them off (perhaps 30%)?

All along I have been jaming them in as far as I can. Just recently I backed them off a bit and the presentation seems a bit more open and not as claustrophobic. They have never sounded bad to me but backing them off seems like an improvement. Anyone else?

I have no problem about fitting, it easily goes down deep inside my ear canal with either shure olives or comply, I guess I should find some time to try your method.

Thanks

because the shape of my ear (like a monkey) it goes just the right depth when I have the ear piece flat to my ear. if I push it deep (never stay that deep if my hand released) it does feel a little claustrophobic and hurt my ear.i bought quite a few extra large P tip because I love it so much not to mention Comply foam deteriorated so fast. I think I will use a pair no more than 2 week, that mean 10USD each month >_<

agreed; I never liked the black foams on SE530 or W3, but they seem to be a really good match for UM3X. the black foams tend to IMO make things a little more warm and bassy (especially in the lower mid-bass), and both SE530 and W3 have enough there already, so I dont like the synergy with those, but the UM3X seems to match perfectly. plus the bonus of not having to replace them so often.

but you can wash the comply in warm mild soapy water and rinse in warm water then squeeze gently and let fully dry before using and they are pretty much good as new. I find I can do that 2 or 3 times before I need to replace them because they stop being resilient

but TBH Spyro; I havent used the comply much on the UM3X as I dont like what they do to the highs. strangely I liked them on SE530 and W3, but not UM3X

I found that when I jammed my Westone 3s all the way into my ears they created a bit of pain in my right ear. I backed them off to improve my comfort, then found the sound stage was improved. I found just gently pushing them in has been the best approach.

olive tend to be a little short for it to reach deep enough to seal my ear. Comply is long enough to stay and seal the ear.
