I just came across this and it seemed interesting:

I was hoping someone had some opinions as to how much it will improve the sound, and if it is worth the $100

Ack! Those op amps don't cost $100 for a pair. I don't know the sound of the mod, but that price for those two is outrageous.

Pretty sure you can get the 627s for about $30 a pair, or a bit more...but not $100. I think they come in A and B grade, ironically B being the higher (and more expensive) one.

Strohmie, they're single opamps so you need 4 of them. Not two. Plus those are OPA627BP's which normally cost $20 each. So that's $80, plus ~$6 for the labor. That's not even factoring in shipping. Unless he's found an inexpensive source/bulk order discount he's not making much money on this. I wouldn't do it for that little.

Edit: I just noticed he isn't installing them, merely shipping you the 627's mounted on a brown dog adaptor. If you're going to buy that from him you're only gaining the advantage of not having to soder yourself.

I am not sure, but the price is for a pair of modules. Each module has 2 opa627 chips on an adapter. But still,I take it's not a great deal??

Dfarina, he is basically charging you $10 to soder the opamps onto the adapter. If you can't soder or don't want to take the time then it's a good deal. Be forewarned though, if you buy them you have to unscrew your CD player, pull out the OPA2123's and replace them with the OPA627's mounted on the adapter.

Ah, mea culpa. Didn't see the module part - I assumed it was simply for a pair of the op amps themselves. Now the price makes much more sense.

The seller gets about $10 profit from each sale, which isn't terrible really. But it's probably easier just to DIY if you're up for that.

I don't know where you can get it cheaper than that unless you soder the op-amps onto the adapter yourself. Remember, as I said before you have to open up your player and replace the op-amp yourself if you buy from this guy.
