Definitely like the album overall, but at least thus far none of the tracks are hitting me on as high a level as the best tracks from their previous albums do. Farrel doesn't add much to the track he's featured on, but Davis fits with the sound much better. My favorite track at this point is probably "Project 100," which is just all over the place.

In other news it's definitely their most compressed album, and it is to the point where it annoys me, at least a little bit, from a SQ point of view. Sure, Supervisor and Vicious were more compressed than the preceding albums, but it didn't intrude as much as it does here.

I'm nervous about giving this a listen after the disappointing (for me) Vicious Delicious. Even if it's competent, I still fear their days of producing gems like 'Dancing with Kadafi' and 'Bust A Move' are behind them.

Pretty good mainstream rock/electro/whatever you call it music i guess, with some hints of psy here and there... but i didn't see any soul/deepness/story as there was sometimes in their best tracks.

Infected Mushroom's glory days are long, long, LONG gone. They didn't do anything noteworthy since Classical Mushroom and The Gathering IMO.

While the collapse of the classic Goa sound in general is only to be expected, the collapse of the intense yet spiritual goa feel is a travesty in electronic music. Goa really was onto something special, and it's (mostly) all gone. But anything good is bound to become more popular and collapse under its own success and the pressure to imitate itself, though I suppose X-dream is, involuntarily anyway, more to blame than anyone else. They started the psy sound that eventually killed Goa but then died out with a whimper itself, at least here in the States.

It will be a real blow to the genre if hot mastering spreads, to the point of rendering everything completely unlistenable. Electronic music relies on sound quality more than any other, especially ambient. I've noticed a lot of sound quality degradation from some of the old stalwarts lately, especially Halluconigen during his live sets. Hopefully most of the artists will have enough brains and integrity to stave this off indefinitely.

This is actually one of my favorite albums so far. Then again, I really liked VD. Also, The Gathering wasn't one of my favorites, so I guess that explains why I like this album moreso than others.

I love this album!

1. Poquito Mas
Starts out with guitar playing behind my head, bass joins in at the side... seconds guitar is accompanied with a snare drum. Vocals are left, right and center but not behind me at all which is reserved for synth and over sound oddities.

2. Saeed
This time vocals start out behind my head which echoes to the front channels. Drums kick in, this time there at the front, seconds later lead guitar joins which is also behind alongside bongos and vocals.

The entire album is amazingly mixed, clear channel separation, such a fun listen from start to finish.

I know this is an old thread, but i just had to look and see if anyone else thought that this album was terribly compressed. I have to disagree with the above post it's so bad i really don't want to listen to it.

Vicious Delicious is amazing imo. Very good album to test your new rig with.

I was actually rather let down with Black Shawarma. Their older work is much more to my liking, with epic sounds, good melody, and rolling basslines. BP Empire and Vicious Delicious are my two favorite albums by IM, with B.P. Empire, Dancing with the Kadfi, Unbalanced, and Vicious Delicious being my favorite tracks.
 
I really liked the B disc in Converting Vegetarians for being such a departure from their earlier work, but subjectively I didn't like it as much as the boomy dance music.

Rolling basslines... what are you listening with?
 
I know for a fact in my car the bass on Poquito Mas, for example, is insane.
 
Haven't heard this album through DT770s... but through 1000 watts RMS on 2 12s the bass is very enveloping and extremely loud.  lol.
