Having read a lot of posts and reviews regarding pad rolling on the 880/600, I agree that the original pads completely destroy the bass on these cans.  What pads are you guys using out there that you find successful?

If I can find some decent pads, I may end up selling these.  right now, my hd600 bass is better, and that shouldn't be.

Do you mean if you "can't" find some decent pads?

I would love to find some pads that helped out the bass, but everything I've read so far is that messing with Beyer's balance isn't good. You could search for j-money (j$) pads, but if I remember correctly they're almost half the cost of the phones.

Lol what. I'm using the original pads and have no problem with the bass whatsoever. If you want more bass get the pleather pads..

I think the sound sig just might not be for you. As others have echoed, I don't have that bass issue either with the stock pads. I would've liked more impact like the hd600s, but overall I found the 600 to be one noted bass. One can always eq, as the 880s eq nicely. I did on occasions like for edm playlists.

^Well, speaking of more bass, when I can afford it I can see myself upgrading from the DT880 to the new HE-560. The DT880 (and, really, open back dynamics in general) just roll off and lose authority down low too much to be particularly satisfying or properly accurate. I'd love to experience a nice, flat down to the bottom, planar bass response. Hifiman's new stuff looks very promising, especially in the not-being-stupidly-heavy department.

So do you really need more bass? I chosen my DT880/600 after a test with a nice pair of HD600, thanks to my my local dealer. To my ears how Beyerdynamic control low freq is a great add. Listening a song with few instruments (piano, bass and chello) I definitely said: "Ohh Jesus.. this one! I can feel the wood of that chello". If changing the pads improve the bass quality.. just tell me where I can order a pair, if you mean that I'll get more bass or deeper bass but less control or quality isn't for me, thanks.

I have the same amp (are we vintage?), believe me.. that headphone output is cheap. Try a test with a different gear if you can, waiting for a dedicated amp atm and my Dt880 are plugged to a Marantz 6010, the difference? Day and night.

Sorry, are you saying the Marantz is better than the NAD? Can't quite make out what you're saying.

Yes, and both amps are here to my desktop.. I also tested DT880 with a vintage Pioneer (a 1974 model) that sound really good and warm, and play better than 3020 (I mean as headphone output).

I don't mean to sound completely unsatisfied with the 880's.  The thing is, I tried skylabs dt880s a while ago, and was blown away.  I've been after a pair since.  Finally got them, and I found the upper extension great, but the bass and mids a bit dry and strident.  I can hear that its going nice and low, but there's not body to it.  So.. started researching a bit, and found skylabs review of them.  He described exactly what I was hearing.  Made the point that changing the pads to the Jmoney pads brought out the fantastic bass that the 880 is capable of, without covering up the amazing extension on top.  He made comments on some of the other pads available as well.
 
so of course the drag is that Jmoney pads are not made anymore.  The lawton pads seem like they might be similar, but they are like $100.  I fully support paying for someones hard work in developing pads, but $100 is ridiculous.  They are pads.  essentially leather and stuffing.  asking that much for a headphone that can be found for around $200 is insulting at best.
 
So that is where i'm at.  I am not an inexperienced bass head.  I was looking to the 880 thread for some experienced advice.  still hoping for that.  Seems now like no one has done much in the way of changing pads.  if they  have, they are staying hidden.

Or the DT 770s.  Bass on my 770s is the best of any pair of phones I have. It is very rich and deep. It vibrates my ears on bass heavy tracks with no distortion.

Alpha Dog pads might be what you are looking for, I think Oregonian has a pair of Darth Beyer's with Alpha pads on them, you might want to shoot him a PM.

OR just get a Zo2 amp. From what i know that thing will vibrate your skull from its bass quantity.

Well... I haven't try it in an other amp than my Little A T1 and it hasn't enough power to become live. Probably you are rigth.

I have a NAD CD 514. Combination of NAD Amp and NAD CD would be reason why sound is really good. I don't know. I
love it.

I will not enter in a discussion what is vintage. You know that there are many opinions about it.

I would recommend it.
