You're seriously missing out if you think loud is all you'll get out of the DT880.

Honestly. They can get a lot better than out of the E17.

You are mistaken. His post was in response to people stating they felt the DT880 wasn´t able to get enough volume on an IPad/with FiioE17.

Also, on a sidenote, your post sounds like "I have not ever heard the E17 but I'm just going to assume more expensive amps sound better".

Exactly. I have a Lyr with some vintage Orange Amperex PQs so trust me when I say, I know it gets a lot better after the E17. I have observed it myself. But I was also saying that they sound pretty darn good out the E17 for how cheap it is compared to the Asgard or Lyr.

Just got my cans.
And after 5 Minutes (just tests as the can is used) listening first urgent question: with certain bass-frequencies there is some resonance in the drivers. The resonance was different for each side and it seems, that on the left it has vanished after these 5 minutes. On the right side it is still there. Just only with certain notes (first bass-notes on "Spanish Harlem" and frequencies around 20-40 Hz on a test track).
Has anybody experienced the same? I read something in a German forum where one had this problem after a long time not listening to them and it disappeared over some time of usage.
Or would you say it´s definitely defective?
Lucky that I bought used but from dealer with 14 days return policy.
But I would rather keep them as they look like new and are max. 1 year old.

What is the amp requirements for these cans? I only have a FiiO E17 currently.

Just at the moment with the Audinst HUD-MX2 with normal gain setting. Dou you think that is what causes the buzz? It is even apparent when listening at low levels (pot at 12 o´clock). At home I could doublecheck with a receiver or cd-player.

Edit: changed to high gain - same thing.

In my experience of running them off an E10, you'll be OK so long as you don't play anything too 'challenging' ... play music with lots of dynamics or low bass, for example, and the E17 will clip and you'll hear distortion.  The E17 will certainly drive em loud enough, but the bass will go a bit farty on some tracks (the most obvious clipping effect I noticed, anyway.)

The 600 ohm 880s really do need a decent mains-powered amp to be driven properly. I use a matrix m stage and that seems to just about do the job ...
