yes i know thats why i am asking if its a good combination, becoz i read different opninions
one says its a good combination
the other says its not so good

but i want a portable amp/dac. but not if its bad for the sound
if its really a bad combination i am willing to get  a more expensive dac and amp combined or not combined

I myself thought it was a neat package until I researched the power output. It still is a great little doohickey for all of its functions, just not that big on powering the volume adequately...the gain switch would come in handy for the 600/250 Ohm pair, but eventually I stumbled upon the Headstage Arrow 12HE 4G, pretty much an all-in-1 thing for me.

yes i heard it unamped, and i liked it from the first minute.
So if i buy the e17 it wont adjust the sound?
or should i buy a little eq?

I wanted to buy the e17 so i can hook it up on the ps3 and use it also for gaming and use it as a dac/amp on my pc
and also use the amp for my iphone 4.

i read in several threads that the e17 is a good device but for the 600 ohm dt880 it wont give you the
full experience? is this really true or wont i notice that much of a difference?

I have the DT880/600 and an E17.
I also have an E09K.
Even though the E09K outputs more power into a 600 Ohm load, I really find it hard to hear the difference between the E17 and the E09K with those 'phones.
Personally, I recommend the E17 for the DT880/600 Ohm.
Obviously the E17 has bass and treble controls. Or you can add EQ to your PC.
Remember, if you have the E17, you can always add the E09K later.

ok thats nice to hear because the e17 had optical for ps3. thats a must have for me.

the headstage arrow 12he 4 ge does not have a optical for ps3?
Does this device change the stock sound of dt 880 600 ohm if you leave it on neutral and boost the bass a little?

If you can wait a bit, the Fiio E12 puts out something like 880mW into 32ohms. It's nuts. It's not a DAC though, just an amp.

lol, my iPad 4 drives the DT880s to enjoyable volume at 85%. The E12 would very easily improve the sound quality and increase head room and volume.

Yep, you can even listen to the 600 Ohm DT880s on an iPad!

I'm pretty sure that can drive the 600 Ohms from what I'm looking up, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to crank it to loud volume...unless you switch the gain control.

The E12 outputs more than enough voltage for the 600 Ohm DTs. NP

Do you have any idea how much power is outputed? Not seeing it anywhere....

I calculate maximum 80-100 mW into 600 Ohms......

This is based on the 22 Volt power supply figure.

As you pointed out earlier, You would probably have to set gain to high.

Gentlemen... the new Infected Mushroom is here. DT880s recommended.

Okay so that's with the power supply plugged in, wait a minute, actually no since the power capacity on the DT880s is 100mW....what about when it runs on battery?

I don't know what you guys mean by 100mW power capacity. My Lyr puts out 6W per channel @ 32ohms, which is still around 1W or 500mW or something like that for 600 ohms.
