Fair points all... I was very close to getting an ear infection in spite of making sure the IEMs were not worn by any other person. My friend I'm in Chennai so I know those temperatures

yeah , but do you wear your stax sr009 when you go out ? you cant right ? from where will you get that power supply ? voltage for 145000 ohm thing ?? just kidding . chill .
its annoying when people leave ear wax on the ear tips , thankfully when i think i have some , i use some deep in the ear tips like ety tri flanges , they clean better then many !!

Of course its a joke. But I always carry a Beretta with me, just in case

. I would never consider taking any of my HPs in public. The only exception to that are my V-Moda XS that I take to the gym. I always prefer sit-down sessions with music. To answer your question, there is no noise isolation as its an open headphone. All my HPs are open with the exception of the LCD XC and the Fostex TH 900.

A general observation: Most members here seem to prefer (IMO) IEMs/CIEMs to conventional HPs. Just curious to know why and are there advantages to the former that I am unaware of (apart from portability)? I could never get used to IEMs myself.

well I am enjoying re-400 quiet a lot but sadly, portability aspect is not very useful for me. I only listen to them when I am at home or office.

when I am on the go I prefer cowon em1, a beater pair of hp that is more comfortable (as its designed not to seal). It does not sound that good but I dont care as on the go, I cannot concentrate that much anyway. I can shove it in my jeans is much bigger convenience.

Though RE 400 is good for taking to office and let people listen so they may understand why it costs as much.
guys , cheapest BA available in india , i have two or i would have jumped on these . if you are looking for a ruler flat response , this can do good for starter .

how does it compares with RE400?

Kothganesh, if you plan to return the favour, do take a massive trunk to carry all those iems. then you can start a headphone shop like there was a discussion some posts ago.

re-400 has more bass yeah , more , better clarity and details , more treble energy and sonic ability is 2nd to none for their price .
but she is more like a typical BA phone ( which it is ) lower bass , similar punch , no midbass hump what so ever , and no veiling in the mids (  you must have noticed with male vocals on re-400 ) . and lesser energy for treble but its not bad , should i call it smoother ? yeah it has lesser amount of details compared to re-400 , smaller sound stage , and if you have 2500rs and want to know how a typical BA sounds , this is a good example , and these are better then pl50 to me , i like the fit , better cable ( stronger ) comes with comply tips , a nice cable clip and a pocketable carry case .
i use shure oliver on these !!

these are my two , i like these !! and i would have bought it if i didnt had two already .

you mention lower bass. does that mean lower frequency bass?

I am noticing bass of RE400 does not go down very deep.

no not deep enough , not as deep as crystals from hisound  but deeper then re-400 , re-400 has lacking sub bass not much but some , these are a bit better , by lower bass i meant lesser in quantity and air . has more forward mids if i didnt mention . and the presentation is better then re-400 for sure , really fun to listen due to its thick notes and cohesive sound .

Actually,

I think the time has come to do an India meet. Between all of us, we have enough HPs, amps and DACs. The problem is where? I'm going to be selfish here and say Chennai. In my office on a weekend. I can bring all of my small to big amps including the electrostats to the office. It would have to be a one-day affair since I will need some time to clean up after. I can use at least two big rooms to set everything up but people should bring their own interconnects. A home setting just would not work. Anyway, these are random thoughts I've been having. Anybody having any ideas on this are welcome. There is always the lure of Chennai filter coffee.

If there is any meetup like this count me in. I am located in Bangalore, but I have no probs in travelling to Chennai for something like this. But do you have a place big enough for all of us? If so you could always start a seperate thread inviting people. Yes you are right about Chennai filter coffee. It is very good. I think it also important that people bring along their audio sources as well. Don't want to leave anything out. :)

its not the right time , we should wait a few years  like 3-4 years , there is not enough enthusiasm in people to do this , i hope if one can get sponsors , then this can be happening . the main problem is that we dont have much enthusiasm from brands too , they dont launch all their phones , dont think indians are ready for this , look at ath we dont have the " whole IM line up " , or even sony , we dont have the XBA H3/H2 , nor had the XBA-4/2 , so lets wait a few years , let this thing boom a bit more , then we will contact sponsors , dealers and might get a MEET happening .
these guys are having a meet sometime soon , these guys have big line up , what about us !!
we can always use some space but there are problems , small but important things should be taken care of too . and most of it is handling by new comers , surveillance is another thing .
if you are talking about enthusiast meet , that can happen .

I think now is the best time. I do agree that even Sony is not releasing many of their really good earphones in India. You are also right people in India are only waking up to this right now. But I hope you do also agree that without an alarm nobody wakes up. If our meetup can at least attract even just fifty odd people, more people will get to know when they post on social media sites. I don't think handling newcomers will be a problem - its more about the respect that people have for such things. I agree surveillance is important. Lots of expensive things!
Besides, I think Kothganesh was referring to an enthusiastic meet, though nobody really knows how enthusiastic it might turn out to be!
