That really doesn't matter at all, since most people can only hear 20 - 20.

I dunno why any headphone maker claims down to 5 Hz or whatever, its more of a felt sensation than a sound, and the drivers are nowhere near big enough to manage it anyway...

Quite so. Big phones are in vogue anyhow. Those I see travelling around are invariably piles of **** but there are more and more heads sprouting enormous domes. Hopefully these are priced reasonably keenly so 'normal' people would buy them!

And is it just me who thinks the old/DT Beyers are a little under-engineered? Adequate for the task and durable enough but lacking some polish, maybe.

I seems to me anyway, that these new cans aren't made to replace the DT-770/990/etc. but to complement them as some kind of a cheaper, more non-headphone-gee friendly line. If that's the case, then I don't care that BD is "commercializing" or whatever, since it will probably end up with more people knowing about their high-end models, and hence good sound in general.

After seeing those specs, they are definately not made as upgrades to the DT770/DT880/DT990. Only 32 ohms, and strangely they are described as supraaural, when they look circumaural.

Yeah, those DTX### series 'phones are deliberately made to look stylish and cheap. And they'll be priced to compete with the likes of the Sennheiser HD4#7 and the Sony MDR-VCRAP series 'phones.

Well, I for one like the headband. I just hope that the pivot points have metal rods to anchor the headpieces.

at 32 ohms, they are definitely going for the portable market, though Grado and Sony should have nothing to fear; for awhile.

Tell me there isn't someone who isn't already thinking of using that headband on their Grado; and ooooh... velour pads.

I for one hope that the line is a success. So long as the drivers don't reproduce like lower Sonys, ATH and Phillips, they should be okay. it's appeal will be: cool looks and comfort. If they can throw in a re-engineered DT880 driver, it may have a chance.

Is it my imagination or do you constantly get out of the wrong side of the bed?

These are the three phones I use most often right now. I'm quite happy

I like the styling of those Beyers. That said, styling means relatively little to me but ease of use is a high priority. It remains to see how they are close-up. I'm sure they'll be pretty solid. I'm fine with the durability of Beyers but their approach to engineering with the DT models I've had and seen are a little... Ostalgic

Please, PLEASE don't associate the VCRAP with the the Senn HD4#7 series, especially the 497.

*rofl* Uhm, er, well... yes. Nothing compared to Grados, though...

Me thinks, btw, that this new line is tailored to compliment the lots of stylish mini-systems and portables that represent the majority of todays ce sales, at least quantity-wise. Maybe that's a good thing, because it should provide enough funds for further development and products in the more exclusive, but not always so profitable hifi segment.

Greetings from Munich!

What does impedence have to do with sound quality??

I guess I should toss out my 40-ohm R10s!
