If you're listening to music that is not recorded well, unamped, and at less than FLAC quality...then its debateable how much value you'd find in something like the JH13. If you have a quality recording, I think you'll be happy with the JH13s...they are very detailed, but not fatiguing, the soundstage is really large for an IEM...I hear sounds coming from what seems like behind me, at times. The slight bass boost is done really well and makes music more enjoyable. You'll probably notice this first when hearing them...it provides the impact of loud listening levels, but at lower levels without sounding boomy.

I'd say they're about twice as good as my ER4P I used to have...but with better comfort/build quality. Getting that much of an improvement over an already good IEM costs a lot unfortunately. When you hear these and go back to normal earbuds...it hits you how good they are, moreso than when you first hear them.

i only plan on using my sansa clip/ipod touch with at least 256kbps mp3s up to FLAC files. no amp/dac at all. will not having those still make a difference?

thanks!

It will make some difference, yes...the JH13 will sound good with those DAPs. You'll get better performance should you add a nice portable amp. I'm waiting for an AMP3 that has no hiss; its inexpensive, has a built-in amp, and can last 50-100 hours on a charge.

Again, portability of amps is my main gripe because I don't want something bulky/thick in my shorts/pants.

Agreed...I had an RSA Predator but sold it as I just couldn't see myself hauling around a portable amp-LoD-IPhone connected together all of the time. The Hifiman player is a bit bulky (and expensive), but a one-box hifi solution is awesome...and hopefully more are coming.

I was about to make a similar comment, but you beat me to it.

I recently learned however that the proper response to "That's what she said" is "Who? Your mom?"

(Not completely sure what that has to do with anything.)

hey all! like everyone on this thread, i'm super excited about the jh13pros. i'm ready to purchase these babies but something just hit me: will i really notice the difference? before you laugh too hard let me explain. i still consider myself a newbie to the audiophile world even tho i've owned the ultimate ears ue5c's for about 4 years now as well as my newly acquired shure srh 840 headphone. i'm really not sure if i can hear/notice all the details that people mention on their reviews about the highs, mids, speed, impact, etc. and since i'm jumping directly from my 5c's to these, i worried that i won't appreciate how good they sound since i didn't upgrade progressively and realize how much i'm missing. does that make sense? i'm concerned that these will just sound "clearer" than my current iem's.

so do you think that i will really notice that much of a difference in these even w/ my limited experience in audiophile sound??

I tried the JH13 universals for the second time today at the NY Meet. Then I came home and played the same songs using my UE5c. The JH13 was out of an iPhone. The UE5c out of a B22 and a Dodson DAC.

The JH13 smokes the UE5c in every way. The bass has more oomph, but also more snap. The JH13s are much, much faster. More agile. Plenty of air around instruments, with little to no smearing. The JH13 is just better across the entire range. How much better? In my opinion, a lot. I would speculate that you would notice a difference.

The Hifiman also happens to sound very good.

Have you guys checked out the JH Audio pages on Facebook and Twitter? If not, you're missing out....some good stuff on Facebook right now in their album. They show the behind the scenes stuff...and some cool designs.
