That just means you're helping to promote the doings of the black market.

HAHA
there are many "AKG international edition" in ebay.but in our buying situation on internet,we often buy gears in de forun's famous shop that can get the really new ones
these kinds of AKG go into china with out ratepaying,so sell cheaper, that's all
they are real AKG's goods, but without after service

But you say smuggled.
Smuggled makes me think they were stolen or gotten through immoral ways.

Hey Aero,

My experience with headphones is that there are differences among headphones. But not enough that I would be miserable. Say my HD650 broke, I may replace it, maybe not, cause I would be very happy with just the AD900. And Vice Versa.

It's rare to see the AKG K601 and the Sennheiser HD650 in a store. And they are both very well praised for the sound signature. They represent the two spectrums of Open Air, one is airy/forward sounding (K601), the other a bit darker and mellow (HD650).

I don't think you can go wrong choosing either one and be very happpy. You have a rare opportunity. Go and listen to those two headphones and choose between those two instead of buying headphones based on the impressions on these forums.

That's what I would do, choose between the two headphones you can audition instead of buying headphones you are unable to test.

Lastly when you buy your headphones, listen to the music through them. Not the headphones. Instead of trying to hear the headphones, let the music take you away and enjoy the detail and intimacy of your new headphones. I hope you understand what I'm saying. There is no perfect headphone or perfect sound, only the music that sweeps you away. Doing this, will lead to being happy with your purchase and your music. Others on these forums you notice I don't think do this, they are always wondering about what is better, and lead to this upgraditis B.S.

Have fun.

I do not listen to any electronica music, but prefer jazz, folk, classical. The 650 then is still better to me than the 600 (I do own both). The veil that some people are reporting is simply not existing using a Moon Audio Silver Dragon cable. The 650 is as open as it can get for a dynamic headphone with my Woo Audio WA3+.

Tried the 701 at a shop and did not like it. "Live like" is more important to me than coloured. I still like the 650 regradless of what others claim how coloured this one seems to be for them. Maybe it is just the combination that must fit (including source, cabling, power etc.)

Or maybe we all just have personal preferences.

Yessir !

...and I forgot to mention to correspond to this threads title: To me it was not the headphone that was the expensive part, but the amp and the tubes (you need lots of those for rolling
biggrin.gif
) and the cables. The Senns I got at a mere CHF 380.-- (at the current exchange rate this is approx. the same in $).

i'm sorry about my english ,event talk a few work in english,i need the translate softwera.......however

another alternative is to drive senn with graham slee solo. i love 650 compared to 600 btw, and solo is slightly cheaper than the lehmann. sennheiser use lehmann to demo 650 in Germany and use solo to demo 650 in the UK, obviously lehmann is a german company and solo is a UK company (sorry to repeat old story guys), so both are good and not so expensive. so you see, if sennheiser use them for demo they can't be that bad that drive customers away from buying them.

i don't know if people call is slightly coloured, bloated, but to my ears, 650 has more bass, smoother and has more body vocals than 600, i like it. afterall it's our ears that matters.

Many thanks for the answers.

Unfortunately, as I said, I do not have the option to test headphones of that caliber where I do live, so I'm talking about buy them from online shops far from the islands where I live. That's why I'm asking there, and that's why asked if you consider HD-650 at 221€ for example, a normal price or a price I must approach because of its bargain (still not answered, if anybody can give his opinion about this it would be nice).

In that case, it would be a bought based on the respect for brands as Sennheiser, AKG or Grado, since I can't test them because it's an online shop, but I do know that with headphones by them I can't go wrong (and less wrong when I'm as I said on a situation of a so so basic student equipment using Sennheiser CX-300 now).

Apart from the HD 650 and the K-601. Which other headphones would you suggest me for example with 240€ as the price limit?

Are the K-701 better than the HD 650 or are they just at a similar level where differences are based on tastes only? (as the versus between HD-600 and HD-650 seems to be)

Questions about price in your particular area can and should be googled. And I suggest that you strongly heed the warnings (which have overtaken this thread, over and against your concern) about amping. My experience with the headphones you listed complements MarchingMule's, as I currently own a pair K601. Brilliant headphones, but rather intolerable unamped or poorly amped.
