how do u compare the ie8 bass with the w3,,, form memory i thought that the westone 3 had slightly more bass with the ie8 bass knob turned all the way down,,,,

Have not heard the Westone 3s but will at CanJam. the Shures do not have enough treble detail for me. I am not an analytical type but appreciate a bit more natural balance. Now if your recordings have hot treble as most CDs these days the Shures my be fine. But you listen to Porcupine Tree and system of a Down and they are not bad recordings.

Hope this helps, but remember it is only one persons opinion.

oh great so all denon iem's are way too bright?
do they eventually even out or are they always too bright,,,

i have the c710 and while it sound good and rich, the highs are way too forward and piercing my ears,, also they are generallly much louder than any other iem that i have causing me too adjust voil while comparing every other iem with them.......... i did prefer the c710 tioo the audio technica cks70 which i thought was totally lacking in the upper mids and lower and upper highs,,,,, leaving it with a muffled almost filtered sound..... the c710 was opposite at least in the trble and upper sections,,

will along burn in even out the highs for the c710, or how did this work with your other denon iem's? seems u know those well

Although to my ears it isn't as focused and controlled as the W3, I attribute that to the fact that it has more quantity to be controlled, if that makes sense. Maybe am a bass head but IE8 on minumum bass dial isn't overwhelming at all. In fact, from my experience its heavily dependent on the recording. So some folks need to start blaming the recording instead of blaming the phones that are being true to their job.

I have the IE8, had the Shure SE530 and the W3, all of which I know for certain have more "powerful" bass than the C700/751 which I still have. I've never heard the C551 but it was already confirmed in the C700 impressions thread by folks who had both earphones that the C551 exhibit more bass quantity than the C700. So being ignorant of your reference point(c551), I was thus "hesitant" to recommend the W3,SE530 and then the IE8 because I didn't know if their low end surpassed that of the C551. The UM3x which I auditioned a week ago seemed to have been the leanest of them all.

By the way Congrats on your purchase and hope the IE8's bring you as much joy as it does to me

glad too see you have all 3,, is old my w3 because they were to obright and i wanted even more bass, and i sold my ie8 but am reaquiring them with different tip options....... idi not own them at the same time but from memory the w3 had more bass than the ie8(with the knob turned down) but i did not have good fit with ie8 so i am trying them again, eergh,,, does anyone else do this..

FWI, I eventually ended up with the Westone UMX3 after lots more IEM owned after the Denons. The C751 highs really are too peaky and the bass is not so deep or defined, even after lots of burn in. You get,oh about 90% of the sound signature, after the first 50 hours or so with the Denons, IMHO.

The Westone UMX3 have a more forward mid than the Weston 3s and less bass and treble emphasis. Pretty darn good approximation of what my studio monitors do for about 15 times less price.

Hope this helps, but to each his own!
