Thanks for the comparison between the D5000/D7000 guys, I'm a huge trance fan (and a lot of other EDM) which doesn't necessarily make me a basshead, I do love bass and it's very important for my genres but I also like it to be defined and controlled, which would make the D7000's an ideal candidate. Unfortunatly, the D7000s are a little too pricey for me, could someone compare them to the D2000/LA2000 please?, as they're more in my price range. I could also afford the D5000 at a stretch if they are pretty darn better than the LA/D2000.
I've skimmed over this thread (apart from a couple of pages of pointless argument and thread hi-jacking
) and I haven't really seen the D2000 compared enough to get a good impression. It would also be supercool if someone could compare the Denon's to the Beyerdynamic Dt990 which is currently my favourite set of cans. Cheers.

Very funny since LA2000 are very probably my next pair of cans.I didn't find a lot of review about it but what i've seen so far didn't draw me away.So im willing to just try it out.Begin with D2000 then making my way through MD2000, then re-cable then LA2000. I want to see the escalting SQ.Nyway... Here is a little comparison that can be found on Lawton's website.
A MD2000 will outperform a stock AH-D5000.
A MD5000 will outperform a stock AH-D7000.
All MD Deluxe Edition (DE) Series will outperform all MD Series.
A MD5000 Deluxe Edition (DE) will outperform a MD7000.
All LA Series will outperform all MD Deluxe Edition (DE) Series.*
A LA7000 will outperform all the rest.*
On the website there is some further explaination related to the little *

Thanks for the reply, Rakooon.
It would seem you and I are in very similar circumstances with almost identical tastes. I think I'll be jumping straight to the LA2000s if I do decide to go Denon, I can't be bothered with sending my headphones to America to get them modded etc, paying import/export and delivery charges and all of that other mither and time spent. I'd rather just go straight to the high end (of the low end
). From what I've read they're pretty damn good and fix up a lot of the problems with the D2000's. The D7000's seem like a perfect match for me but I simply can't justify spending that much money.
Just out of curiosity, which of your headphones do you listen to the most at the moment and why are you changing?
Thanks.

You know you don't apply for MOT status until you have sufficiently pimped your wares unabated for a few months to build up word of mouth.

IpodPJ,
You're so far in violation of Head-Fi's rules you'll be lucky you don't get banned for your blatant self promotion.

N_Maher,
What am I in violation of? I wasn't aware that posting a mod for people was against the rules. But I removed the part about offering my services, since you say that is against the rules. Sorry for that. I certainly wasn't trying to break any rules, so there is no need to get upset about it. I am extremely honest and would not try to backdoor anyone, I was just mentioning what I would charge at such a time when I am ready to perform the mod for people, and at that time I would obviously apply for MOT. But you don't need to be rude and jump to conclusions or assume bad intentions on my part, and if you have no interest in this mod that's fine. I'm merely trying to help our community to have better quality headphones, not trying to make a living from it.

But definite degrees. The Denons were completely off, and so colored in every spectrum sound I could no longer listen to them. Every sound and note from the Denons were colored. I'm sure there are other headphones not so much. I know the AD900s have a colored mids and forward treble, but even they are more pleasant and controlled than the Denons were.

Having experimented with all manner of padding materials (including 1/2" foam from Joann fabrics, it's green in color, correct IPodPJ?), IMHO, FWIW, any difference in sound reported has nothing to do with materials used to stuff the pads, but has to do with the amount of stuffing and distance the driver is placed from the ear. This has to be dialed in very carefully to get the prime distance from the ears. You can over-stuff and understuff the pads.
