I have my hands ON the Sony X1000 Walkman - Impressions / Discussions

I have a Zune and the sound is good. What I like about the Zune is.... If i shuffle all songs and lets say Mariah Carey pops up and I say well I want to listen to her other albums. I can just press down on the center and the options is "Go to Artist" to get to the other albums without going in out menus. My question is to someone who has the x-series. What happens when you touch the artist or album link when a song is playing , will it give you their other albums or songs?

Interesting set of opinions posted. Some say that this is an adequate to good player while others say it is a good to great player.

I wasn't planning on getting this (wanted another player when ipod got stolen) but I didn't know what to get. Hear about this for a while and yes, OLED screens are amazing. (The phone I got was the Samsung Impression (only phone with an OLED currently)) and the display is amazing.

Compared with S630F/S730F series, is there any benefit in SQ? I dont fancy touchscreen or wifi.

P.S: I really use SenseMe a lot, although initially it doesnt make sense why Sony included it LOL

That function is available on S630F/S730F but not sure in X series. But iirc, it's available, saw it on youtube demo before.

I can't see (yet), how to 'go to artist' on the X1000 although I could do it with my 808/639/829, so it looks like something else disappeared.

toughnut-
where did you see 'go to artist' on youtube? Do you have a link? It doesn't seem possible because once you're in play mode, there's no way to scroll down to artist and click on it.

Well can you hit the search icon on the bottom of the player to see if it gives you the rest of the albums of the artist when a song is playing. (the player has to have two albums or more I guest.). Thanks

i have one question, can you make an on the spot playlist, like the iAudio X5's D-playlist option? just keep adding tracks you like, and it adds to the list, and can delete or swap on the fly?

thanks

No on-the-fly playlists. All the 'extras' got dropped when SonicStage got dumped. It's a shame because I love being able to add to a playlist spontaneously without having to think about it in advance.

photoman-
I can't see how to 'go to artist' at all during playback. I don't think it's possible.
The search icon just brings up the tracks of the album that's playing.

X2. The function has disappeared... a little bit disappointed by that...

On the main playback screen, the left icon brings up the track list, the search icon brings up a pop-up offering your to browse your tracks by 'all songs', 'album', 'artist', 'genre', third icon allows you to quick search the track, album or artist via Yahoo! or YouTube and finally the fourth icon brings up the options for sound enchancement, play mode etc.

Clicking the album cover once will bring up the on-screen controls. Pressing the artist name does not do anything.

Thanks walkingman: Well that's disappointing! Could be a deal breaker

I'm taking that from the lack of 'wow' in this thread then that this new Sony has an excellent screen, an average web browser, and maybe an 'on-par' audio performance to the Touch, or slightly inferior?

I was hoping this device would blow the Touch out of the water :s

I'm thinking it's good, but Sony has just kept upto speed in the market and not really moved anything on by any distance?

Yeah, I don't understand what Sony was thinking. It has a great UI, but some of the things (like those shortcuts) that stood out on the S and A-series are missing.

It is possible that this is one of the issues of using capacitive screens. Perhaps Sony thought that the fonts were too small to be reliably selected by fingers... Who knows? I hope we will see a firmware update that reinstate these features.

So far only the only people that has posted in this thread and owns it is me and Soozieq, so lets not jump to conclusion here. Give it time and we will see more new owners giving their opinion.

So far:

Screen: Wooooooow!!!!
UI: Functional
SQ: Better than S639/S739 which was already an excellent device. Has an airy soundstage, good tight thumping bass but not overwhelming. Excellent EQ.
Browser: Don't bother

Did you expect it to be rivalling iMod/optical D10 ?

As far as sound appreciation on these forums is concerned the thing seemed doomed from the beginning...
