Is There Something Wrong with My V6s?

I mean, I've only had them a day, but I noticed something odd -- namely, an intermittent clunking noise in the left earpiece as I walk. I think it's a microphonic effect coming from the little exposed wire jostling against the top outside edge of the earcup!

Has anyone else ever had a problem like this? What should I do about it? Wrap a little piece of foam around the wire maybe? Or tape it down against the earcup so it can't move?

Hi,

If you mean clunking like static sounds from one side of the speaker, i had that problem too, i took it apart and taped the wires so that it wouldn't come in contact with other wires. the thing is that these wires are coated with some substance that won't let it interfere with other wires. but i just taped my wires on one end so they wouldn't move and made sure they didn't make that static interference anymore. hope this was something worth reading!

It's not a static sound, it's more like a mechanical clunking noise, as if something were loose inside the can. The drivers sound fine, so I can't imagine what it is. If it keeps up, I'm gonna have to return them....It's only when I walk with them, so it must have something to do with the bouncing motion.

Why don't you try tapping the wires with your fingers while being otherwise still and see if you can reproduce the noise you're describing? Considering you only hear it when you're walking my guess is that it's just microphonics.

You may not need to go as far as taking anything apart or taping anything to it. I get along fine with the clip that was included Sometims I have to lighten my step when I'm creating too much of a thumping noise when I'm walking. Usually the microphonics aren't loud enough to be a distraction.

You know, there is a tiny hole near where the driver connects to the headband. I've had small pebbles find they're way inside the driver housing and rattle around in there.

Sounds like microphonics.

I exchanged my "clunking" V6s for a new pair today. This pair doesn't clunk, but it does make some some sort of weird microphonic in the left earpiece when I move the cord around -- sort of a light crunching noise. It's much less annoying than the clunking was, though, so I guess i'll keep this pair. I could go on exchanging these things for a year, it seems, and not get a truly "quiet" pair. I'm a little surprised at the degree of variation in build quality on these things...it doesn't jibe with what I always heard about the V6....

I think you are right -- that there is a lot of variation in the V6 (although it sounds as if you've been especially unlucky.) I suspect that this may be true of other headphones as well -- since most of us make reviews based on just one instance of a particular headphone, we don't have any way of noting variations in manufacture. I wonder how many "disputes" on this forum are actually two equally perceptive comments on two headphones that were identical models but behaved differently?

Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug.

Seriously, that is a bummer, I know I'd be bummed. I sympathize.

So it was nothing to do with the way you walk / what you was wearing?

You didn't have a larger jacket on, the day you had the first v6? - the only reason I ask is that my PX250s, if their cable rubs on my jacket, they make an annoying noise...

I think I've noticed what you're describing. I don't walk around with my V6s, but sometimes if I swing the cord strangely, I get a microphonic clunk. It could be a design flaw, the combination of a heavy cord and a single-entry small-cup design.
