Hey guys,

Pretty new to this forum but I've browsed around and have read up on some stuff. I am gonna get new IEM's as an upgrade from my Sony MDR-Q68's and I just wanted to know what would be good quality IEM's for $150 or less.

Requirements are:
-Have to be portable, durable and take the abuse of a rough daily life (I go to the gym everyday for 3 hours)
-Have a good secure connection to the ear (don't want them falling out when I'm sprinting on the treadmill at the peak of my exercise)
-Be comfortable (want to wear them for a couple hours without having to feel pain in my ear canals)
-I listen to a lot of rock/metal.

Thanks for you inputs.

I hate to say this, but do some more browsing/searching. There are way too many of these "best under $xxx" threads, and there is plenty of available information out there on the threads to make an informed decision. Do more research, it's all here. Use google, and it can lead you back to specific threads dealing with $150 and under phones on HF. This is just more valuable space taken up, when the information already exists. Search the Phonak, Monster Turbine, Apple Dual Driver and other threads. Just trying to be helpful, but you can do this on your own. I realize there is a lot to digest, but the process will also be a learning experience.

hmmm... you might give the turbines a good looking over. They look like a pretty solid build.

X2 for the Turbines. Great for your genres of music. And the durability issue is more than handled by their all metal construction.

Best of luck in your search, and give an update with your choice and then sound impressions.

Welcome to Head-Fi btw, and sorry about the wallet!!

From my experience, no matter what IEM/Headphone you buy you'll regret not going into the next price range.... I suggest the UE Super.fi 5 pro. They're $200 at amazon and to me are great rock IEM's. I listen to rock ranging from Kings of Leon and Dave Matthews all the way to Lamb of God and Devil Wears Prada and they handle everything I throw at them. I understand in the economic time, money is always tight and audio isn't always the right way to blow it but for an extra $50 you'll be more than happy with the extra expense.

I would not say that the SF 5 Pro is hands down a better phone than the Turbines, so not sure price is really a gauge for SQ here. I have seen counter-posts about the UEs, saying you can do better for the money. I have never heard them, but saying they are better phones than the Turbines for an extra $50 ain't necessarily so. If the OPs budget is $150, he can do quite well with the Turbines. If he is going to spend $200, I would suggest he get the Senn IE7s, which are $189 on Amazon right now. I have them right now, burning them in, and they work fine with rock and meet the durability requirements.

There is er4s for price from 150-200$.
I would recomend ue's 5 pro as they are nice sounding IEMs and believe a lot of beginners will like their tonality which is good for pops.

turbines and buy a set of the Audeo silicone ear guides to reduce microphonics and makes sure the phones stay in your ear.

At this point, I think I can recommend the IE7s without being a hypocrite as I've actually listened to them for more than 24 hours.

Yes I know money isn't always an increase in SQ but I never said he shouldn't get the Turbines because I've never heard them but I do have the UE5Pro and they're the best I've heard (again, excluding Turbines) but it was more of a suggestion than anything and I apologize if it seemed pushy

No, no problem. I am sure the SF5 pros are fine. It was just the assertion that if he spends and extra $50, he will get a better phone may not be the case. I haven't heard the SF5 Pro, so that's fair to say it's a good choice, since you do own it. But for his budget, the Turbines are an excellent choice. And they are even less, and can be had for $105 at MacMall, I believe.

My point is he won't necessarily regret getting the Turbines, and spending $50 more won't guarantee he will be happy either.

I understand but I mean this is Head-Fi

We all regret spending the money.... because we wish we would've spent more! lol

But the Turbines seem to be the unanimous decision so go for those
