On top of that, I don't use Vista. Atleast not on my gaming computer. And most the games I play aren't brand new.

And The Forte is great. Love it.

Well, I've been reading this thread carefully since i have the exact problem, except that I play only recent games, like Starcraft 2, and so I was wondering if the fact that the Essence doen't support EAX 5( If I got it ) was really important ?

Plus, I was also wondering if the decoder of the Z-5500 was good ?

Given that it is specified that it supports the decoding of DTS, what about classic formats ?

EAX can still be used through OpenAL, but in practice, it's pretty much dead. I'd advice one to ignore EAX and base the choice on other factors.

I'm going to warn you straight up that if you have a high end computer (aka you have high power GPUs), you may experience a buzzing effect which is caused by electrical interference. Didn't work well on my gaming rig that had a 4870x2, but ran fine in a friend's HTPC. You have been warned. Auzentech has done nothing yet to address the issue.
