I think AKG is closer to this rather than Grado or Audiotechnica, but still there is a gap. Could be planars are different.

Thank you for quoting Frank Lloyd Wright. He loved Japan.

Thank you for the comment.
Yes, that is one of reason I choose his quote.
In fact, FL Wright is the farther of Japan modern architect. A part of his Imperial Hotel is still preserved as a heritage.
As a weekend photographer, I like modern architect and I like his works.
When I went to Chicago, I visited his remaing studio at Oak Park. That was a nice experience

This is not mainly intended for use in outdoor, cable is 8 feet long and terminated with 1/4 plug.
But it's possible, I will try but I need some courage

Is the plug on the YH5M not like the YHD series? The 1/8th plug fits inside the 1/4" - it looks like a single plug but if you hold the rubber part at the back and pull, it separates. The plug for the YHD is metal while all the other yamaha plugs I have come across ( YH1000 all the way through the YH3 ) are a single moulded plastic.

Wear them proudly

I will take a picture of the YHD2 plug and post it - I just presumed it was a standard for the more "portable looking" - their impedance is not conducive to direct drive from a portable device and after damping, their efficiency is even less so. The low impedance and high efficiency of the YH5M is perfect IMHO ..dB

Form ever follows function, This is the law.

- Louis Sullivan

....

Its big brother YAMAHA HP-1 is very hard to drive as the impedance is fairly high while the efficiency is low. However YH-5M is much easier to drive.

...

It's obvious at the first look.

Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.

- Frank Lloyd Wright

This is such a beautiful post! A masterpiece, really, truly doing these headphones the justice they deserve.

But, i do have one relatively minor point that I feel is worth mentioning. I know English doesn't do a good job making these distinctions, but headphones are feminine, not masculine. Think of it this way: how else could so many straight dudes be so obsessed with them? In love with them, in many cases! The same reasoning applies to cars as well
