But really, any headphone that has good soundstage with good clarity will be good for gaming.

The AD900, which I own, would a great choice for someone without an amp who's interested in gaming performance.

ok, thanks, so looks like i'm starting to get a "feel" for the ad700..

i'll read up a little more now...

and these are cheap enough that if i don't like them i can live with them as spares and then keep looking

oh, and i was told before not to bother with any of the small/earbud headphones. because at one time i was thinking of the TRIPLE.Fi 10 vi.
do you guys concur that it's a no-no for pc gaming ?

Darth Beyers? I've seen them in gaming forums rather often and they can be purchased new. And whatever kbi said is also good.

Eh, I wouldn't spend $300 on iems for gaming. Not worth it if only for gaming. The soundstage won't compare.

I will say the AD700, there open back and have a huge sound stage. I used to own a pair of them. They worked very well in games.
When I owned them I had a prelude and they work very well without the need of using CMSS3D for me that is On the prelude. The major down side with the AD700s is they lack the tump of the bass.

Then I will also say the HFI-780s which I am using now since I been sold the AD700s. Some will say there soundstage is too small for FPS games.
But I def dont think so, as I dont have a problem with my surrounding in FPS games. That I play alot of I can still tell my surroundings, This is with dolby headphone off on my HDAV.But it may be diffent for diffent people since people ears are diffent.

Now for the HFI-780 if you have small ears then the ear pads isnt gonna annoy you unless you just dont like pleather. The ear pads can be swamp with the ear pads for the DT250 HPs. if you hate pleather or have big ears.
These of the two headphones that I used for gaming besides music. And works very well. But still you better off listening to either one to see if you like the way they sound. The HFI-780s can be ran without a headphone amp.

oh well...

you're writing this as if you're disappointed at the suggestion you got...

if you don't like the suggestion, get what you wanted in the first place, and if it doesn't work, then try something else

I have done some testing with dolby headphone and movies. The results should transfer quite well to gaming I suspect... Result S-logic obviously works for me because the imaging was so much more precise with that and the number of out of heads moment with radios playing , doors opening and such was just stellar with that. But most impressive was that the positioning was so spot on so often at times it´s like running a 5.1 system really.

DX 1000 which otherwise have a nice wide soundstage didn´t respond that well with dolby headphone. Don´t detect much difference in soundstaging at all. HD 650 has just to cramped of a soundstage to really showcase this. Also the lack of detail I suspect don´t help either. K701 second after the PRO 900 but not really close. It also as most know doesn´t have much in form of bass impact. That definiatly goes for the DX 1000 over KeeS modded PRO 900 but all around the soundstage and dynamics of the 900 really is what makes it take the crown... It´s also kind of a chameleon compared to the DX 1000 and 650 which have more of an own personality which helps with different movie genres. DX 1000 is the non stop action movie headphone or Mozart headphone whereas the 900 can switch modes more so to speak.

Both the DX 1000 and 650 have way more body to the music which is one of the reasons being less good with soundstaging I feel. PRO 900 is striking the perfect balance I feel with great low bass but still not over shadowing the midrange or treble to much to effect detail

So it´s quite clear PRO 900 is my weapon of choice for most music, games that requires good soundstaging.

FWIW, I think a key requirement people are missing here is the "10 hours" comment you made above. That's a long, long time to have anything strapped to your head. At the very least, it's a long time to have anything strapped to my head.

Considering your gaming needs, and your unstated but very real comfort need, I'd recommend the Sony MDR-SA5000 as at least a consideration. Great cans.

I wouldn't reccommend the AD2000 for gaming.
The soundstage is almost too airy, and at times seems to lack the cohesive all-out analysis of the DT880 for example.
How about the DT860? Similar to the DT880 but you are able to use them without an amp because they have low impedence. (Also notice how DT880 earned the only 5 stars in koolbubbhaice's review)

I haven't actually heard them but if I were you I would research them.
The DT860 are the top of the Groovaliser series: DT440 (newer version of DT531), DT660, DT860.
They're seldom talked about here.

Tried:
Sennheiser PC150
Sennheiser HD555
Beyerdynamic DT770's Pro

The DT770's are definatly a better choice imo (between these three). Love mine for gaming

I quite often use W5000 with computer ( with cheap old integrated AC'97 ) with good result - only thing You've got to do is to adjust bass level and ... buy adapter

- most of the things sounds crapy ( I got use to that ) but atleast I'm getting very good soundstage and I'm in the different room weird feeling ( hate this sometimes for some odd reason )

I'm not sure it's a good idea to get a closed headphone for such long listening sessions. Chances are your ears will become sweaty and uncomfortable.

Otherwise, I don't have any specific recommendations. IMO, any full-sized headphone would probably be decent for gaming purposes, unless you are playing for money.

I wear my close back headphones for a long time and my ears dont become sweaty or uncomfortable.
