Which do you prefer and why?

I myself prefer IEMs/Earbuds. Reason being, I just dont like the look of portable headphones when I'm out and about. Yeah yeah, sound comes first, but IMO IEMs give more of a professional look.

IEMs, since they can fit into my trouser pocket

I only own IEMs, but I would prefer both; they both have their advantages. I love the IEMs because of isolation and size, but if I'm sitting home on my computer, I would rather put something on my head than in it.

Earbuds all the way. I tried a couple of cans but they were squeezing my head and giving me a headache in no time and usually sound too quite/distorted with portable DAPs. IEMs are not comfortable in my ear canal and too close to the eardrum for my comfort. Therefore I choose buds exclusively.

IEM's are my number one. they offer easily sound as good as full size headphones, detail and clarity is on the most part better aswell, along with better portability they are hard to beat. in fact i cant see a bit enough reason to choose full size headphones over IEM's when used on the move. they may offer more depth in the bass and bigger soundstage this is a small price to pay when IEM's are getting closer and closer and in some cases have exceeded bigguns!

earbuds don't stay in my ears worth a damn... except the sennheiser twist to fit models

IEMs isolate too well for certain situations

portable headphones aren't nearly as portable as IEMs/earbuds and the ones i use (PX100) don't isolate at all

i have no preference it all depends on the situation

Earbuds/IEMs, or perhaps small 'discreet' headphones for outside use. Saw a few people walking about with full size headphones today and it just wasn't quite right.

I saw a girl wearing some full sized ones, and it was odd as well. Some are made to go into public (ATH ES7/ESW9/ESW10), but some are just for home and only home.

I moved to Korea with Senn 555s and Shure E500s. Two years later when I moved to China I gave the 555s to a friend, and just took the Shures.

The Shures are better for out and about, and for sleeping with, well falling asleep with. I can lay on my side with my head on the pillow with no discomfort. I usually wake up an hour or two later when the album has finished.

Otherwise I just use some speakers at home.
