I'm looking for something smaller (and/or lighter), USB-rechargeable, sounds at least as good as 2Move, and preferably (though not essentially) has a crossfeed switch. (Need any more info? It's for an iPod Touch.) Go!

PS: Could you give some indication of price please? And if they come with a DAC. I don't care if it does or not, but I'd like to know.

Yea, I did before I bought the 2Move. I see it's gotten bumped down a bit. It used to be number 2, I think. Or was that someone else's massive review?

That's probably Sylab's review the 2Move is at number 3.

Higher are:
1. Triad Audio Lisa III @ $600.00; Power supply is $350 additional
2. Qables iQube @ $605.00
2. RSA Mustang P-51 @ $375.00
2. Larocco Audio Pocket Reference II mk 2 (availability unknown - PLEASE read entire review)

Practical Devices XM5

Active Adjustable Crossfeed
DAC
Great sound, Treble and Bass boost, along with a 75-OHM switch and an additional 10+ DB boost switch.

Only issue is it is not USB rechargeable, it can though take any 9volt battery or a rechargeable 9 volt.

300$

Anything that takes 9v is too thick, I think. My 2Move is 28mm thick, and that's a PITA to put in my pocket strapped to my Touch. I can't seem to easily find info on how thick these other amps are. I know iBasso D3 is 21mm...are the Mustang or Pico < 20mm? That'd be nice. I know amps like the Fiio E5 and iBasso T4 are tiny, but they don't do much to power higher end cans (e.g., K701), do they?

Why not the Headsix/XXS? It's supposed to be identical to the 2Move except that it has no DAC, crossfeed and is smaller in size. Though not USB rechargeable.

P51's midrange and midbass is not as prominent as the Headsix/XXS, but smoother and more refined sounding.

The OP wanted an upgrade from a 2Move. You may disagree with Skylab's rankings but as I can't afford to buy them all and judge for myself they're all I have to go on. The XXS is at number 7 while the 2Move is at number 3.

Did you miss the quote on the word "upgrade" and the description in the OP?

I don't know if I disagree with Skylab's ranking, since I have never heard the 2Move. And I specifically mentioned "supposed to be the same" in case you missed that. On the other hand, you appear to disagree with Jan Meier, the creator of Move/2Move/3Move and XXS/Headsix.

In this age internet we gotta learn to separate facts from claims. There are people who claim that MP3 sounds better than lossless, believes in hi-fi racks and pouring sand in speaker compartment. What do you say?

I salute Skylab for his wonderful reviews that helps many, I personally refer to it often to help my purchasing decision. I respect and value his opinion, but I am not sure if I want to treat an amp review thread like an oracle. I have heard many of the amp in the review and I can tell you that to my ears some amps sound exactly the same (and confirmed on their design aspect) and are ranked differently (not the Meiers). And if I (or anyone else for that matter) were to rank them the ranking would look pretty different.

Yes. I missed the quotes on the word "upgrade" and just took it as a straight request. Sorry about missing that.

I also didn't realize Dr. Meier had said those amps were supposed to sound the same. Sorry about missing that.

My opinions:

MP3's better than lossless. No. Though I doubt I could tell the difference between a 320k MP3 and lossless I know I can tell a 128k from lossless.

Believe in hifi racks. I don't get it. If I had any hifi equipment why shouldn't I put it in a rack? Does stacking the separate parts directly on top of each other make a difference? Perhaps it's the years I spent in IT, but a rack sounds like a reasonable idea.

Sand in a speaker compartment. Wouldn't that cause damage?

I bow to your superior experience, but when I was choosing an amp all I had to go on were the reviews. Lack of a job, money, proximity to shops left me with just the reviews to go on.

I meant no offence.

Steven,

I might sound a little combative, but I really don't mean that. Just want to point out that basing purchase solely on an "amp ranking" is just not a good idea. There are factors more at play such as personal preference and synergy.

No I don't mean the racks that you got from furniture shop, there are hyper expensive racks that claim to reduce vibration of audio components and thus improving sound quality. There are speakers that has a sand compartment meant to improve sound quality too.

Cheers.

No problem. I take your point and agree that one users amp ranking may not apply to everyone.

I think it took me about two weeks of reading reviews on here and other sites before I went for my K701's. Probably about the same for my amps.

Steven.
