What kind of DAP. The Ipod could use an LOD which is a little different than the regular headphone out.

I have a little shuffle and Travagans red hanging from my Shure PTH device and I made a super short ( As short as I could solder it.) 3.5 male to male.
I soldered two Neutriks straight 3.5's with a short length of regular copper phone wire twisted and heat shrink wrapped, the whole thing is only 3.5 " tip to tip and since it's straight, I didn't have to worry about the in-flexability of the copper phone wire. Excelent SQ and so convenient. My next one will be two super tiny (30g) silver wires with a peice of 1/4 " copper tubing ( Ice Maker Size)for the ground as well as the sheilding for the silver wires.

Buy some mic cable like Mogami, or Canare starquad or something, and DIY your own.

Using less than 6 inches of cable really doesnt even allow the properties of the cable to form. I dont even think a full wavelength is even represented. In longer stretches and higher power levels, the character of the cable would come out more.
Especially in a portable situation, i wouldnt be too picky with cables. Just get a good quality well-made cable.
I have a few fancy cables, and i end up using the grey RadioShack cable for $5.00usd.

I have to nitpick so much over the difference in short low powered cables, that i wonder if i imagine the changes rather than actually hearing them.

On my speaker system i do hear changes, but not so much on portable.

In fact, you can go to Guitar Center, Sam Ash Music, RadioShack or whatever, buy a length of guitar/mic cable, and cut in into the lengths you want, and solder some connectors on, and youll have a few feet of extra cable for when you need it.

Prolly get like 10 feet of cable for like $15, and buy come connectors at RadioShack for $3 each or so, and youre done.

Unless you want a LOD, then find one no more than $25.
