I am sure you guys get this all the time, but I happen to have been searching for that perfect soundcard all day today. And I'm getting mixed results and irrelevant Google results. So perhaps asking for advice from none other then you would be the best.

I use Fruity Loops Studio and VSTi plugins like ReFX Nexus. I do happen to be looking to expand when I get comfy with the amount of VSTi plugins I have now.

Currently my setup is erm... Well it's pretty much dead. I had a PSU that failed to ground itself because of a dirty power source and it fried my CMOS battery and made my motherboard die a year later after the incident, even though I moved since the incident and RMA'd the PSU. So you can imagine the hair pulling frustration I might have right now from just looking for a good soundcard.

I currently have an Audigy 2 ZS with Sony MDR-V700 headphones. I know that I need to upgrade and move onto better, bigger things. I plan on getting an i7 setup with 12GB of RAM and disabling virtual memory with XP 64bit as my OS until Windows 7 matures.

The problem I face with FLS not running good will be fixed by the i7 setup, however, due to my sound setup being inaccurate in what my music really sounds like, I notice how I have really messed the EQ settings because my headphones are dominant in the lower frequencies and less so the higher up you go in frequencies. Meaning I am simply turning up the EQ on my songs to have those higher frequencies louder and turning the lower frequencies down and now I have a swapped effect.

My search included the fact that the X-meridian is good, but so is the Asus Xonar. Now I see that the chipset that the X-meridian has is the best chipset and more focused towards what I want to do, I think.

This is what I want for my sound setup:
- High SNR (I can hear the static my Audigy 2 ZS produces even with it's 109db SNR)
- High sound quality for ALL frequency ranges - A balance for all. (I do not particularly like it when a frequency range is dominating the rest!)
- Would like to have a fat jack port for my headphones
- Would like to have ultimate control from the front panel of my computer, AND NOT THE BACK! I really like the front bus controller I have for my Audigy 2 ZS and I don't think I can go back to using the back of my computer all the time.

Oh and I play games every so often, but I don't think it will matter since I'm not using Vista.

I will spend the money it needs in order to have that, also if you guys have any suggestion on a high quality set of headphones, that would be extremely helpful too!

I REALLY appreciate your time, thought, and consideration into this!
