Hi, i've got a Melos amp and when its volume is set to zero i still get sound coming through, i've been told this is usual and that with other peoples amps its not very loud. Unfortunatly mine is, alittle to loud for me to listen to over long periods of time. I've done some tests and hooked my Imod up as a secondary source. When the volume is turned down its quieter than my primary source (MF V-DAC via USB)

So it looks like the signal is abit strong from the PC into the Amp, im using Media Jukebox and ASIO4ALL to stream via USB to the V-DAC and then into the AMP

My question is, is it possible to reduce the volume via the PC

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank You

Right ive found a way to do this, not sure if its gonna have a negative effect on SQ but this is what im trying ...
On Media Jukebox these a feature called DSP Studio which uses volume leveling and decreaces the volume output by 8 - 14 dB depending on how loud the track is. Seems ok at the moment, im still getting used to my new amp so am not sure how this should sound yet

Does anyone think using software to decrease the volume is damaging the signal going to the DAC?

Thanks

I have no idea about Media Jukebox, but foobar2000's volume control is an excellent digital attenuator. It increases bit depth to 64 bit floating point before applying any effects (including volume control), then back down to 24bit fixed for output. That's pretty much perfect, there's no cleaner method of modifying the signal.
