I'm starting to notice the list of Mac compatible MP3 players is dwindling quickly. At this point, I don't know if there are any current models other than the iPod that are Mac compatible*. According to the FAQ on iRiver America's site, the iHP-100 isn't (doesn't mean it won't be, but for launch purposes, where it's most important, it isn't). I know the Jukebox 2, 3, and Zen line from Creative are not. Any other options?

*Just was looking and found out Archos is still up to date on being Mac compatible.

Yeah, it's pretty bleak with the choices. A sign of the iPods success. The Rio Pearl is rumored to be compatible with other than Windows OS's, though it's release date is still openended. Neuros keeps up a poll about Mac support, but about a month ago they emailed me that there was currently no plans. Hope iRiver keeps up targeting Mac customers. Creative, as you mentioned, left the scene after the original NJB.

I really was hoping that iRiver would be compatible, but alas. I'm thinking I'm going the Archos way. Ugly and bulky unfortunately, but hopefully with the Rockboxxx firmware, will sound good. I was also thinking about the Rio Riot, but not a lot of feedback on that, and not a lot of places that still sell it as Sonic Blue discontinued it. Someone here did post a link to the website Compgeeks.com which is selling it for $135 plus shipping, but after reading comments about them at Resellerratings.com, I'm not sure I'd bother risking it.

Ah well, so Archos or Rio Riot if I can find it. Any opinions folks?

Save $200 for a used iPod. It works soooo well with the mac. why go with something that has mac support but is probably not going to work all that smoothly? Or at least not as smoothly as the iPod.

Are you certain of that? They're already claiming full support for Linux and ogg vorbis.

See this thread as well. Supposedly, if you have OS X and the current version of Java, using Positron with a Neuros and a Mac will be "easy" (or so they say).

Forgot to mention: As of now, USB connection only. No Firewire, no PCI slot to put a card in, no new computer coming in for now.

I hope you/they are right. The lack of Mac support was straight from an email they sent me in response to the question. It actually reads "No plans as of now for Mac support. We would love to implement this, but we have a lot on our plate for now. Sincerely, Tim" It sounded kinda hopeful though.

I'm not the one who's making these claims. I'm only providing the links.

Even so, I wouldn't buy the current version of the Neuros. I'll be watching for the sleeker firewire-dockable version next year.
