Right, my SA5000 has been working patchily for a month now. The cable finally broke after two hears of hard use and travel which I'm impressed at after everyone's moaning. The right channel comes in and out.
Currrently coping with my HD595s which sound harsh, slow, dull and crap soundstage in comparison. I never realised what a step up the SA5000s were despite their brightness!

So, where can I get them recabled in the UK? preferrably London?
Thanks.

Also, any cable suggestions? Cardas starquad and Mogami quad come to mind for a simple copper choice?
Not sure SA5000s need silver lol.

Don't you have anyone around you that is handy with a soldering iron? Maybe search through the DIY-cable thread here to find a person locally.
What I would do however is order some parts for your cable and hand it all over to a local store near you. I am sure they can help you.

Head-fi in the UK is really not developed. I can use a soldering iron myself but don't have one (used to use school's) and tbh I've never resoldered a headphone in my life

All the people i know now are economists, medics or barristers or something dreary like that.

A couple stores I've gone into charge ridiculous amounts and most have said that they would not recable unless I used THEIR wire and plugs or ordered through them, so they could 'guarantee quality' ahem price. And quite a few hifi stores flat out refused.

I might try richer sounds/sevenoaks type of companies.

Most hifi shops in the UK who sell headphones just ask for a receipt and send the can back to the mfr...not quite the recable i wanted tbh as it was bought in the US on a trip and the receipt has since gone awol.

And I don't think i can afford to send them to the US along with a $250 recable given the price. Might as well get gorged here for £200+ or $300.
Apuresound charges $160 for 1ft!!

I guess i could contact punisher or warrior05. TBH punnisher's interconnect he made for me didn't last too long (it was too short - should get him to fix that too now that I think about it lol).

Go to your local tinkering store and bring your own wire and connector(s). They can do your recable I am sure.

Also I am not sure about how your interconnects didn't 'last long' because they were too short (seriously, what did you do with them) but you may want to remove the name of that head-fier.

nothing - he told me his low profile lod was probably too short (2cm) and he himself was surprised at the result and foresaw it might not last even with loving care, but because i was abroad I never got around to it. I guess i should've included the back-history too

The interconnect is fine, just the right channel has an intermittent signal issue killing the soundstage unless i wiggle it. The stress comes from the design of the small lod and simply how it plugs into the amp+ipod.

I'm emailing some more hifi shops now - hopefully they will say yes

But this is OT - I'll pm him later

Sorry to drag this back from the dead, but I wondered Chris-ah1 if you had any joy with a shop or a UK Head-Fier? The cable on my Sony MDR-D77 (with the odd Sony minijack) is hanging by a thread and needs some TLC

No worries Jaunty, it's a common issue, but unfortunately I did not find anyone who would take it who was local to me so I could drop it off. There is one store in Oxford who would do it for me, but I no longer study there and it was expensive.

Instead, I bought HD650. Very much different from the SA5000, but better in many ways. Good luck.
