Absolutely, no doubt!
P.S. it'll be more fair to compare the E8 and HD580. They're in the same league - small headstage, rough bass, slow, a hump in the upper area but somehow engaging. But with HD800..................

Uncompromisingly and in every aspect.
Ultrasone E8 - $1400
Sennheiser HD800 - $1300
What else to say?
Oh dear! I would rather say the Editions have had the bad fortune to have fallen victim to one's dorky idea to combine a bass-bloating Phonitor with them. And the HD 800 to have been in luck OTOH.
Bass quantity and quality was the least problem of E8
And the dorky idea was by the manufacturer. Obviously they think E8 suppose to sound so.
But the head-fiers often have severe contradictions with manufacturers (the problem with the "crappy" Stax amps you know
). Obviously the engineers involved in audio industry are not experienced enough as some people here.

Yes, that's approximately what I think: engineers and audiophiles is a bad match. And that the audiophiles are not the target group of a pro manufacturer. And that there are manufacturers in the pro industry with more experience in headphones than SPL.

Now I can't take your word for it- I know what HD580 sounds like.
Just kidding! Did you have a chance to listen to E8 with other amps and not in a show environment? Your findings seem to be quite different from Tangerine's comparison in a different thread.
