What were you feeding your V3 with? If it's your iPod, your source was a weak link in the equation and would certainly explain any headphones sounding anemic, but particularly the extremely source/amp dependent HD650s.

hehehe, ok so the wooden cups + silver recabling changes the sound drastically over the stock Pro?
I have to admit that when I played around w/ dampening on mine, I quickly came to the conclusion that they used very low quality plastic which resonates like crazy(the Premium is made of ABS)....yet the clamping was too strong and made the sound way to compressed to my taste.

so you'd pick your 770/600 over even the JVC DX1k?

would you advise that I grab leather pads like on your manufaktur ? did you compare w/ stock velours?

I also have the DT 770 pro 80 and Sennheiser 650's.

I mainly listen to Rap/Hip Hop but the rest of my music is pretty varied there just isn't a large quantity of it.

I like my 650's more overall because of their ability to keep the lows/mids/highs "balanced" during music that has a lot of different frequencies playing at once. For example in a movie you may have an action scene that has asplosions and crap flying while the characters are also talking; most lower quality speakers/headphones cannot reproduce the intense loud sounds while also retaining clear dialog.

However the 770's reproduce the feeling of the lows better (in respect to a nice hi-fi speaker setup). While gaming and watching movies the sound stage is more apparent and discrete. For music the Sennheiser's sound stage is preferred.

In reverse order:

> I think the leather pads are much better on the DT770 than the Velour

> No, the DX1000 are the best overall headphone I own, probably by far. But there are a few things I like better about the 770/600, and they sound very different, so they make a nice change-up

> The wood housing (both in terms of it's material AND it's shape) makes a HUGE difference. Trust me, like them or not, the Headphile stuff sounds very little like a stock DT770/80.

That said, the stock 770/80 is one of the all-time bargains in headphone-dom, since they can generally be had new for about $120.

so you actually compared both on your 770/600?
coz I read some ppl complaining that leather pads were not as comfy as velour and would make the bass muddy on the 770?

First off I realize I am in the "deep end" of the pool here, but in an A/B comparison I preferred the seperation of the 770/80 over my HD 600. Then again I prefer the soundstage, bass quality, mids and treble extension of the DT 150 over both.

I have the leather Beyer pads, and they are more comfy because they are softer than the velour pads. I haven't got the chance to try them on a DT770.
But on my GMP250 (also a closed headphone) I tried both the velour DT770 pads, and the leather pads. I much prefer the leather ones, both on sound and comfort.

feel like selling them to me?
biggrin.gif

these are the aviation or the manufaktur? QQQ told me that the manufaktur had holes in the back like the velour, but not the aviation...which are aimed at isolation.
I also read another guy saying that the cognac/black Manufaktur sounded different, but these are not ready to buy anyway...

velour is very forgiving if you wear glasses, same for leather?

and leatherette usually gets hot after a few hours, not leather?

No, I won't sell them, like them too much
regular_smile .gif

They are the aviation ones. I bought them from a pilot shop. These don't have the little holes in the back.
I also bought the aviation leatherette pads, but the genuine leather pads are much better. The leather ones are bigger (more room for the ear) and not sticky and/ or hot to the skin.
I wear glasses, The leather earpads are more comfortable for me with the glasses, because they are softer. I found the velour pads rather stiff.

alright, thanks for your help...again
biggrin.gif

yeah, I read that the distance between the foam that's on the drivers and the skull was longer w/ leather....plus not having holes at the back will increase the isolation
smily_headphones1.gif

I've found them for 32 EUR here in a pilot shop, it's "EDT 300 LS" right?

the last time I used leatherette was on the cd3k, and these were terrible.....sticky, hot, would collapse to zillions little pieces after a while...and I've always heard ppl giving good feedback about genuine leather, so that sounds like a plan

The "leatherette" pads are awful. No doubt about that.

The leather pads do not get hot, and are just as comfortable as the velour (maybe more comfortable). You can't use the Aviation pads, I agree. But the consumer leather pads (with the inside holes) are comfortable and better sounding.

The Premium/Consumer DT770 is *NOT* a bass monster at all - in fact, when stock, it has far less bass than the DT990, sounding much more like a DT880. Without leather pads and a recable, I actually didn't like the 05 770. But with a recable and leather pads it sounds just awesome.

you mean "can" instead of "can't", right

so you compared the manufaktur/aviation leather pads?
do you agree than the manu. black/cognac sound different

having no holes would increase the isolation, and I like that
biggrin.gif

actually I find the 600Ω drivers to give far more bass than the stock 250Ω and it's natural...not overly compressed and bloated like on the Pro, I love my 770/600Ω

The 600 ohm drivers are better all around, yes. But "far more bass"? This was not my experience. They do have the MUCH smoother treble, which can actually be perceived as being more bass.

I DID compare the manufaktur and Aviation pads, and what I mean is that using the Aviation pads makes the sound bad. I don't recommend this.

And then are you saying that the black and cognac leather pads sound different from each other??? This is not my experience, and I do have some of each.

1)well yeah the bass is more natural than the Pro, and yet more audible than the 250 from my experience...cleaner
2)ahhhh, so wasting $50 on the black aviation is not quite an option ? it's either manufaktur leather or stock velour in your opinion ?
3)well that's what I read on the forum

I what way did the aviation leather pads makes the DT770 sounded bad (just curious)?
