So, I have the HD650 now, with the BLUE DRAGON cable from Moon Audio ( a great cable BTW !)

And I have tried using it with desktop amps, and the PICO.

I must say, the PICO is one hell of a combo with the HD650.
It has a very powerful amp to really make it sound loud !

And the SQ is great (very liquid and good)

Really, if someone have the PICO and not sure if it can take the "power" needed for the HD650, rest a sure it can handle it

Way to go PICO

x2, you really can be taking your PPX3 with you on a trip

Well you could but it might be a little difficult. I don't even think my ultra micro amp can fully drive the 650's to their potential. The ability to have AMP/DAC combo in a portable package which can "drive" the 650's is better than not having them with you. Hence why I ordered a pico for this very reason, going to France on a business trip for 4 months.

HD600's out of the Pico weren't magic when I tried it. They were fairly decent. I don't expect the HD650 to be any different than that situation. Lisa III however... Ehe. But I'm comparing apples with oranges of course.

When I had my first set of HD650, driven by Little Dot 2, I was happy. Then, when driven by the Little Dot MkV, I was happy. My second HD650, driven by a Boa, disappointed the heck out of me. I sold it within a couple of weeks. I much preferred the HD600 than the HD650 out of the portable Boa amp.

Then I got my third HD650, driven by either the Little Dot MkIII, or my Pro-Ject Headbox SE, and I was once again happy.

There has to be a reason that the portable amplifier *ruined* the HD650 experience, and I'd have to side with the 'lack of current' people. It really needs mains powered (or at the least, decent trans-portable) hardware to sound any good. Otherwise, get some easier to drive cans

I don't deny some portable amps can drive some full-sized headphones quite decently but using the exaggerate word like "magic" sounds strange to me. I haven't heard the magic out of my HD650 even with desktop amps, let alone portable ones.

The thing is we're talking about portable amps being magic with headphones, not headphones being magic.

I'm talking about the personal preference issue and my K1000 experience was an example.

So for Lil' Knight he might never get it on with the 650. The 650 sound works for me as long as the amp has enough power...which I feel the Pico does.

I'm guessing that HeadLover is a fan of the 650 like myself...a favorite maybe??
