I've owned several of these cables. I started a few years ago from one I bought from Longs, to one from Radioshack, to a Monstercable brand one.

Now I'm looking at something called the Pivot Zu, and ask, why spend 99$ on this sort of cable?

I have absolutely no idea, since Zu Cables' Pivot normally costs less than half that.

Well, I'm looking at the MSRP on their site. Where can I get it for 50$, and why should I spend 50$ on this sort of cable?

You can probably find a number of posts that vaildate (at least from the listener's perspective) the improvement in overall extension and detail with an improvement in cables. You can also find a few posts that dispute the ability of a cable to make a dramatic improvement. In the end, only your ears can justify spending $50.00 of your hard earned money on a new cable.

Zu Cables runs frequent eBay auctions. The prices on those auctions are significantly below the prices on their site. You spend money on a cable if you thinkit will sound better in your system than the ones you already have.

If you use it it will be important to a certain extent. My question is whether a RCA-RCA+connectors combo would be better than the best Mini to RCAs out there (not that many good choices IMO).

The search function is a useful tool...

but to repeat what I've said earlier, I'd go with better cables and an adapter. The Radio Shack adapter is not particularly audible to me.

I recently tried a RatSack mini>RCA cable. Compared to my regular RCA>RCA w/mini>rca plug, it sucks. Everything, lows, mids, and highs, are horrible.

IMO, you should make your own RCA>RCA (i made 5 5' cables for $30) and use a Mini>RCA plug (not cable)

Because the plug is only about 1" long, it shouldn't affect sound quality as much as 4' of ratsack cable.

DIY cables:

If you have any questions about the DIY cable, PM me. I lost about 3" due to re-snipping because of mistakes.

Radioshack sucks
Monster cables are overpriced

You will probably only hear a significant difference in cables if all your components are good enough to detect it.

A decent source, amp, and cans will certainly bring out the weak points in your system.
That being said, I personally think there is quite a difference between cables: mini-RCA included.

I have the ZuCable, the Monster Cable interlink 400 MKII (one of their top of the line), and one I made with the Radioshack Gold y-adaptor and Outlawaudio PCA RCA-RCA interconnects.
The DIY and ZuCable ones are very close - I might even give the edge to the DIY one (which isn't bad seeing as it cost about $40)

Good luck, and post your impressions.
