Hi,

Few days ago, I tried the UE Super fi 5 pro and quite happy with it. Lots of bass and pretty warm sounding, fun to listen but mids were a bit recessed.

But the big problem is I still don't want to spend $180 for a pair of earphone, also I've heard that Denon C700 can beat SF5 in some respects and it's only $100. Or if Denon can't do the job, should I go with SF5pro?

I mostly listen to metal, rocks music. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

The C751 certainly is a winner in the sound quality, it's in line with the Denon signature sound: bassy but terrific forward mids. At its price point there's no realistic challenger for value/money ratio, except the IM716 and RE2, but both of them are bass-light phones. The only issue is that they don't provide a lot of isolation, so depending on your usage they might not be for you.

I've owned both, and even though the 751s are cheaper, I'd go for the super.fi's... The 5 pros really sparkle, and are such a fun sound, whereas I found the 751s to be a little less exciting, and lacking the wow factor.

sorry to disagree with the previous poster and make your decision more difficult.

im pretty sure u can find the super.fi's used for ~110... i dont think u can go wrong with either choice, but i really do agree with thekid22... i have both and it is true the super.fis are funner to listen too they seem to be more punchy/brighter...

but the only real issue you might have is how well they will fit into your ears and in result how well the isolation is going to be this goes for both the c751s and the super.fis... the c751s are more comfy and easier to put on (they might stick out quite a bit or a little depending on how your ears are) and with the super.fis you probably will find them uncomfortable at first but its not that bad/will get used to it, but they will stick out for sure...

EDIT: might want to look into the Philips SHE9850... they seem to be offering a bit of what the super.fis do

i prefer super fi 5 pro, denon gets a little sloppy at high volume, wheras the super fi just makes mincemeat of your eardrums, hardcore volume control, they could take some serious volume knob turning without creating audible distortion, the denons however will not distort with high volume but on my D2 at 45+ started to show a few imperfections

it'll really depend on where you'll be using them most and the level of isolation you're seeking. as mentioned, the denons don't provide as much isolation and can be a problem in noisy outdoor situations. otherwise they're superb, with tighter bass and better mids than the sf5. the cable and extension cord also weighs down on the earphones a bit and can cause them to come loose with movement. so while i use the sf5 for the gym, at home i prefer the denons.

whichever you end up getting, i'll also suggest getting some comply foams for them.

I just got some Denon's to replace the 5's I accidentally stepped on. I have to say, that I actually enjoy the Denon's sound more. I like the impact of the bass on the Denon's and the treble seems to extend higher. They seem harder to drive than the super.fi pros. The super.fis I think sound more tidy, especially at higher volumes. It's not there is no bass, but it just sounds like sound without much texture to me. The Denon's bass is a little bit flabby maybe cause of the sheer amount of it but I still enjoy it better. Highs on the super.fi seem rolled off but they're very accurate but not very detailed imo.

However, the Denon's do not shed outside sound nearly as well so if you're going to listen in noisy environments usually, I would go with the super.fi's. Sometimes when I'm walking around the city with the Denon's, I wish I had better sound isolation which is why I bought some comply foam plugs although i haven't tried them out yet.
