How do you compare SF10 with IE8 with regards to neutrality and un-coloured tonal range? SF10 has better details?

I have heard people comment about how good the musicality of the IE8 is, so i guess if you're talking about neutrality then it won't really fair too well. I personally tried it before, but it isn't to my liking compared to my current ER-4, so well. I can say that if you're looking for neutrality and large un-coloured tonal range, you should be trying the ER-4.

So was I when Mercury AV refused to accept my Shure SE420 within 24 hours of receipt!! I didn't know it was illegal back then. That was eighteen months ago, and I'm a lot wiser now!

With the IE8 packaging, look for the 'Open Here' tab, to avoid damaging anything if you can help it. Then inside the box there's a thick plastic covering. You can hook it out from the bottom without ripping it. But it doesn't matter if you do rip it by accident, they still can't refuse to take it back or charge you a restocking fee. I just like to be very very careful when I'm opening stuff, because I don't like to send stuff back unless I can pack it like new again. I even take photos so I know where everything goes back

soyama: We're supposed to have all the current returns information in the retailers 'terms and conditions', but they leave things out, and add their OWN terms in the hope people will be unsure about their rights. And if they DON'T list the '7-day returns policy' in their terms, then the buyer can extend the returns period for a further 3 months. most people don't know that either. We have the law on our side occasionally with regards to consumers rights, but too many online retailers rely on the fact most of us don't know our rights.

Ofcourse Soozieq, they loose money on taking returns

The items have to be repacked at the factory, normally.. That wouldn't necissarily be the case with IE8, the wrapping is brilliantly done, solid, yet easy to unpack, easy to pack it up as it came too, except for fingerprints the box will look new!

And yeah, I read well up on the rights I had before I ordered my 2 headsets, ie8 and triple.fi.. I wouldn't want to be stuck with both of them.. 14 days time to let the webshop know you are returning the item, then i think actually, 1 of the shops gives you 3 months to return it. Not solid on that one, but doesnt matter

Its not many norwegians here

soozieq I see you are in London. I am based at Ascot. From where did you buy your IE8 and TF10?
Bought your WS3 from USA? Any taxes?

I bought my TF10 directly from Amazon, and my IE8 from Advanced MP3 Players (but through Amazon, not the AMP website.) As for customs charges on the W3... a LOT! I chose express shipping so I knew I'd get charged. I paid over £60, of which £13.50 was Parcelforce's clearance fee

Wait till the W3's in stock in the UK, it will be a lot cheaper.

Amazon UK price of TF10 is insanely high (£350.00) !!!!. But its always easy to return the items with Amazon and Play.com as well. TF10 is much cheaper in AdvanceMP3 but not in stock these days.

Ha ha, no! That's not the Amazon price!! It's Pixmania's price. If you want to make sure you're buying from Amazon directly, look at the menu on the left side, and choose, 'shipped by Amazon', then it will only bring up those results.

I got mine for £179 (direct from Amazon) back in May. They don't have the IE8 in stock at the moment, but AMP do.

So I'm sitting here, quite silly..
Sony A639 + shure scl3 in one ear.
Iphone + sennheiser IE8 in the other. And IE8 rings out clarity compared to the shures, but both are brand new, gotten today.
Dunno wich device produces the best soundquality, but both are playing the same track,in 320kbps atleast.
Probably quite silly to try this, but it was tempting
wink.gif

I'll let them play abit and do some more listening

Fun fun with new toys..

Probably a very good idea, its hard to make the songs play totally synchronous, as the iphone is slow as a st.bernard, while the sony is a greyhound..
Those are dogs yah, big and slow, slim and fast!

If there's anything else that would aid in the decision, it will be if I can get a solid and stable seal with the IE8. Right now, I'm using the larger foam tips and have to sort of angle the IEM into my ear for it to seal well enough, but moving my jaw can break the seal somewhat easily in my right ear.

Hey Possum, that happens exactly the same to me too. That's why i said in my earlier post that i think finding a right tip is very important for IE8.

I'm now using the sony tips (from my ex90 and u can get them from the sony shops) which is very comfy for me to wear and it won't break the seal if i move my head around or yawn

I thought I'd put up some quick early impressions about the W3 vs. IE8 here as well, since the W3 threads are moving along so quickly these days. There's no doubt when listening to both that the W3 is much more detailed. That's the first thing that jumps out. The IE8 by contrast sounds a bit muted and veiled. Sound stage goes to the W3 too. The IE8's may be a little wider overall, but the W3 just stomps it in instrument placement. They're truly unbelievable in that regard. You can hear where a singer is standing in relation to the rest of the backing vocalists. You can hear the subtlest bongo drums in the background, and visualize where the player was standing. They resolve a guitarist's fingertips sliding on the ridges of the strings. There are layers, and there's atmosphere to the recording venues that's conveyed. Amazing stuff.

The part I struggle with is the bass. I find it lacking somewhat. Others in the W3 threads have just heaped praise after praise on them for the bass, but I don't quite hear it. Thankfully the W3's take EQ'ing well, and a couple ticks up on my Sony's clearbass helps rectify this. Now I'll admit I'm a bass-head, so I find the Sennheisers to have a bit more soul in the lows. The bass they present might be a little more tubby, but I'll take that, when it adds that toe-tapping factor. Overall I was very underwhelmed by the W3 at first. But the more I listen, the more I realize that they don't do much wrong (minus the bass, if you prefer to listen with flat EQ). They strike me as a little bit 'lean', and I normally prefer a big, fun, and laid-back sound. I’ve been wondering if this 'leanness' is due to a synergy issue with the Sony, which is currently my only DAP (and which I’ve happened to love with any other earphone/IEM I’ve had). That's about the only thing I can come up with to explain the disparity with what other reviews are saying about the bass and fullness.

I suppose I'd say that I prefer them overall to the IE8, because I can tune the bass with the Sony to a level I like, and then I have all that detail and resolution to enjoy in addition.

Thanks for posting your impressions here, cn11. An interesting read. I know you've gotten rid of your Images, but can you possibly say how the Westone 3's bass compares to the X10's?
