I'd recommend the SR80s as well but they aren't closed. Don't bother with the Eggos, however as the Grados are much better for the explosions and soundstage necessary for FPS games. Don't get me wrong, Eggos are awesome for music, just not great for gaming.

Oh and for a recommendation on an FPS game - try the combat desert mod for Battlefield 1942. Awesome U.S. vs Iraq action using modern weapons including Apache helicopters, T-72 tanks, Mirage fighters, Humvees and A-10 Warthogs! Plus, its free!

Seriously, any headphones are good for first person shooters, even p.o.s. ones.

For me personally, I like HD580's with my computer, mainly because they're very comfortable, they have a very relaxed sound, and they're open, which means I can keep them on for hours and not feel the slightest bit uncomfortable.

I'll second BF42, it's a whole lotta fun. DL the multiplayer demo.
Unreal Tournament 2003 is pretty good too, I've been playing giant room death match insta gib for a while and love it. This one has a decent demo too.

They're both pretty system intensive games. They need at least a 1G cpu, GF2 or Radeon64 ddr, and 256meg ram. With BF42, I'd recommend 512meg ram, it's a ram hog.

Do you do any team play? Use teamspeak at all? There is a version of the HD280's that comes with a mic on it. That would be my choice for a pure gaming headphone but then I play alot of CTF so it might not be necessary for you.

Most cs gamers i know have cheap headphones. But one really good player i know uses HD590s. I haven't commited myself to buying any cans yet but my bank balance will be ready soon.

As I'm a cs gamer I'd say it would need to be important for closed cans for lans. Hearing footsteps is important.

But for home use I'd say open cans would be a good option.

I cant stand playing cs with speakers

I play cs quite a bit so good cans for fps would be one of the primary factors in my purcse decision.

I use the built in mic on my logitech clicksmart510. It's a very good mic IMHO, so I don't need one with mic. Thanks for the recommendation though.

Yeah, I wish I could have 1 closed for lan and 1 open for home but I don't got the cash for 2 pairs of good cans

Does anyone have tried both the V6 and 280? If so, how do they compare?

I just got a pair of Senn HD580's and i love them for gaming. Esp for all the reasons noted by the last guy that uses em. Very comfy, not too pricey, open, clear, relaxed sound.....
